He is number one. He fights Paul Williams and beats him, then they'll be no more questions.

imagine if PW had not yet had the chance to avenge his loss to Carlos Quintana.

Who would be #1? Marg beat Cotto who beats CQ who beats PW who beats Marg.

right now it's even between williams and margarito. Williams did beat margarito but then he lossed to CQ. Consistency still matters. There is only one way to decide it. Let them have at each other again. The first fight was really good; the rematch will be better.

So when did Cotto beat Floyd to become the man?

When Floyd retired, that spot became vacant. Cotto number 1 contendor, Williams number 2, and Margo number 3.

After last night, Cotto and Margo switched - so Margo is now number 1, Williams number 2 still, and Cotto now number 3.

I have Williams but to be fair with Margo, a rematch fight with Williams will determine who's the man at welter.

I'm still picking Williams to defeat Margo again in the rematch.

Margo is the clear number one. Since Williams beat him in a close fight Margo has beaten two WW champions by stoppage while Williams has split two fights with someone who wasn't even in the top 5 at the time.

i believe he is although i also thought about that before but the impressive win over cotto surely erases the loss against williams automatically making him no.1 at 147. But he still had unfinished business with williams. If a rematch happens and he wins it will solidify him as the king at 147

He beat the number 1 so he should be.

Not unless somebody is STUPID enough to claim that Mosley and Williams should be rated higher.

Williams beat him, proving he's better than him. So he should be rated higher.

That is the truth. I don't care if it makes me STUPID. I think you're a stupid Margarito nuthugger who confuses lineage and thinks Margarito should be rated higher than someone who beat him one year ago.

You should have been more clear with your poll actually.

If by #1, you mean #1 contender for undisputed welterweight champion, than yes, Margarito is #1.

If by #1 you mean undisputed welterweight champion, then no.
