If that poll tells us anything it's that there are at least 31 bitter "boxing-fans" who will hate Margarito no matter what!
Well considering he just beat Cotto to a pulp yesterday, that's not really surprising. Remember this as well, about 70% of people on here also thought that Cotto would beat Margo. It defies all logic to say that Margarito is the top WW when Williams is out there with a belt that he won from Margo. In the end, it doesn't really matter. Williams is interested in fighting Margo again, no way Margo will turn down that fight(unless he can fight Hoya). So once the rematch happens, that will end the debate.
Let me ask you this; let's say Williams lost a close decsion to Margo and then turned around and KO'd Cotto. Would you be of the opinion that Williams was the top fighter in the division?
Man, who's the girl in your avatar? Anyways, I wouldn't give Margo #1 outright yet. I want him to fight Paul Williams again so we can confirm that Williams' 1st win was not a fluke or that Margo is just too much a good pressure fighter that no one can stop him in the WW division. I suggest that there should be a unification tournament between all four title holders to find out who is the undisputed WW champion.
So now Margo is the top man in the division based on Margo beating a guy that beat a guy that beat Williams? That would sense had Margo not lost to Williams and had Williams not KO'd Quintana in 1 round in the rematch. I'm not saying Williams is the top guy. Personally, I believe the spot is open and up for grabs. Williams-Margarito II will decide who the top guy is.
Yes! By beating Cotto, Williams would have a good claim to being the # 1 welter. However, he would NOT be undisputed. As is the case with Margarito right now. Don't forget, Cotto was not the undisputed welterweight king but he was considered #1. Same as Margarito right now:deal
I stongly disagree. In the end, it doesn't really matter. The rematch will happen and there will be no more debate.
Its crystal clear to anyone that aint nit picky. #1 means the best ww in the world. I don't give a **** about a #1 contender.
Since they last fought margarito has been on a roll picking up 2 titles. PW lost and won the rematch and b4 this fight most people would of had told you that cotto was the man at welter. But now that margarito beat him they don't want to admit that he's the man now. If I'm not mistaken cotto is the only welter that is on the top 10 p4p list, and margarito gave him a beatdown now that's saying something.
My point is that AM lost a very close decision to PW and PW lost by a wide margin. Sure he avenged with a KO but that wide margin loss doesnt simply go away. In short PW;s loss to Quintana was worse than AM;s loss to PW. Plus Cotto was clearly the top WW when AM beat him down. AM's destruction win over a top Cotto is clearly better than PW's razor thin decision over him. Having said that, PW is my preferred opponant for AM within his next couple of fights. Although Id love to see AM beat the **** outta the other Puerta Rican, DLH.
Now it's your turn to play the hypotheical game. If this fight had taken place right after Williams lost to Quintana would you even be arguing this?
Good for Margo, but he still lost to Williams. Let's not also not forget that Cintron shamelessly ducked Williams and that Arum was none too interested in matching Cotto with Williams. And on what basis was Cotto the man at WW? Owning a paper title does not make you the man in a division. The solution is simple, let's see the rematch. I refuse to accept the notion that Margo is better than Williams based on Margo beating Cotto considering Williams beat Margo.
Very interesting quote but you can also look at it this way. PW did what Cotto couldn't do and that win against AM no matter how razor thin it was. A win is a win.
