WBC released this statement on Marquez-Morales: The World Boxing Council wants to clarify the title situation of a fight between Erik Morales and Juan Manuel Marquez which is being planned: The WBC received a personal request from Golden Boy Promotions regarding the authorization for the bout Morales and Marquez for the WBC lightweight diamond world championship, but we were never told, nor did we announce that such fight was a fact, but it was authorized in the understanding that it is the promotional companys decision to hold it or not, when and where they decide. The WBC simply approves such decision with great pleasure, by virtue of the fact that the bout would be between two Mexican boxers who are considered to be some of the greatest in the history of our country, regardless of Erik Morales having been world champion three times in different divisions and Juan Manuel Marquez also having been world champion in three different weight divisions. That the bout is held is not the WBCs decision or responsibility, but Golden Boys as well as a decision to be made by both fighters. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Boxrec also has put the fight back up as each of these guys' next fight. Looks like it's happening. Another great fight dead (Khan-JMM). What the hell does a fighter get winning a diamond belt, other than having to pay more sanctioning fees? Looks like GBP want to use this bogus belt to help sell the fight.
So many $$$ fights scheduled With Pac Mosely, and JMM Morales... But fighters need their money so it happens. I wish it would have been JMM PAC 3 Mosely Berto that would have been sick... but Fans can't always get what they want. Hopefully they offer JMM a shitty deal and he faces KHAN... I really want that fight, if he goes out in a bad fashion which I doubt since Khan ain't no KO artist especially against a defensive fighters like JMM, even if he looses it would be because he challenged himself like he always has fighting the best... We shall see. Anways, After Morales, Marquez said he is going up to 140... So either now, or Later...
Who gives a rats ass about these bogus belts any longer???? True boxing fans will know that the winner of this matchup is not a juniorwelter champ...... ......the same situation with Pacquiao's bogus juniormiddleweight championship belt. Handing out these bogus belts has become common place in boxing, nobody even cares any longer.
Yeah, the diamond belt is as ludicrous as the wba super champ concept. I personally would have preferred that morales stayed retired, but if he wants to fight on, I would like to see a fight between JMM and him. I do think JMM has the upper hand at this stage though.
I don't mind this fight. Both should retire soon imo and I've always wanted these two to fight. I actually think Morales beat Diaz and I'm not completely writing him off yet, should be a decent fight at least.
