A fellow fight fan replied to me that Marvis is underrated. Is he? He did beat boneclutcher, but that is more of a reflection on Smith, imo. Marvis and James are good men, but the two first round annilations of Marvis at the hands of Holmes and Tyson make the underrated claim difficult to believe, imo. Am I wrong? It wouldn't be the first time. :)

Marvis only lost twice in the amateurs ,in almost 60 fights. one was to tubbs ,but he has pro wins over Smith and Green in the olympic try outs. Joe Frazier is basically to blame for his sons mistepped career of poor management with opponets and fight venues. He match him with Holmes who was 44 and 0 in only his 10th fight. Sorry but that's just DUMB! He fought Tyson but at least had advanced as a fighter with 17 fights under him,but losing to Tyson should not reflect on Marvis. Particulary when another bright move by his father calling Tyson average and overatted before the fight.

In short he had better movement than Joe and was still learning ...a match with Tyson ...FINISHED him and took any beleif he could wina championship away! He would have been a cruiserweight at that time, being 210 or so would never have been a good idea to fight Tyson with such limited pro experiance,Joe simply lacked sensibility and should have left the original trainers in place that got him to the pros.

You cant really underrate him bc he didnt do nothing to underate him. His resume is thin and left with open what ifs and only 20 fights.
