I really love the guy fight!! but everybody is start hyping him saying he is the man? what he have done? a close fight to zab judah and alexander? a ko over past his prime soto? what u guys think?
He is fun to watch... Honestly who cares what people say. Throw him in there Vs. anyone (His class) and we get FIREWORKS!!!
The truth is. Hes not a pressure fighter! He recently started fighting that way because he feels he got robbed. He Didnt! His style has become reckless. Its worked against his last few opponents because they werent on the level. When he steps up the comp again he'll get exposed. Its one thing to be Duran, or Bradley with that defensive pressure. Its stupid to go in there head first like Paul Williams. When you dont have the chin or the gas tank. It he had rushed zab like he would have been slept.
I had him beating Judah close and Alexander 9-3. So, I think he was robbed blind against one and not robbed but got a distasteful decision against the other, and had probably played that one a way he wouldn't, were he to get the chance again. I think he might prove to be the best at 140, if given the opportunity against Garcia. But, I agree, he's oddly become a bit of an ESB darling. One of those guys people go overboard on because he can take and give a punch and gets sympathy gushing over decisions. I like him a lot though. He's a fine class of fighter and fan-friendly. It's hard not to like him.
Im actually a big fan, but I cant help but think hes getting overrated just a tad by boxing fans. But thats ok with me, he got robbed in the Alexander fight (I actually think the Zab fight was close) so its nice to see his momentum not get stopped by BS like that. If that means hes a little overrated then thats fine by me. * Sidenote - For those who point to the Judah fight as to why hes overrated, lets keep in mind just how green Matthysse really was on the big stage at that point. He had only gone past four rounds once in his entire career up till that point. Once. That fight was two years ago and I think hes no doubt adjusted to the world stage and has improved as a fighter. So I just think the Judah win should be viewed in the context it was in. But still, good win for Judah imo, and its not good for Matthysse's record that he wasnt able to deal with Judah better, regardless of if one thinks he won a close decision or not. ----------------------- All in all, I think Lucas is a solid, dangerous fighter, and I hope hes able to get a big fight soon.
I don't think he's overrated. Overrated by those who feel he is SIGNIFICANTLY better/higher ranked than Garcia. Soto/Olusegun/Corley are a good top three wins. I scored Matthysse over Alexander by 1 point and Zab over Matthysse by 1 point. Good performances either way and I realize that I am in the extreme minority on the Zab fight. He has gotten better since then. I would favor him over anyone at 140, the only ones I'd have to think about would be JMM/Garcia/(hate saying it butBroner.
I thought he got robbed in both fights. Remember he fought both judah and alexander in their back yard.
He IS a little overhyped for what his abilities are..... BUT, its well-deserved too He delivers the goods, and thats whats important
Not really, no one is saying he's going to beat Mayweather or Pacquiao. To say he can beat Danny Garcia isn't overrating him at all. Who has Garcia beaten that Matthysse would struggle with? You could argue that Matthysse has been beating better opposition than him. Alot of people think he got robbed in those 2 fights(me included), so that creates sympathy for him, added to the fact he is good to watch with a high KO %, people are going to get behind him, this creates a bit of hype but I think that is healthy and deserved.
