Yea I know, another Mayweather thread but I was watching the all access documentary on the build up of Mayweather vs. Guerrero, and I couldn't help but notice in one particular segment, May Sr. closed the training secession by telling May Jr. "your good, you don't need to do anything else". I remember Floyd giving his father a look like "I got more", but Sr. wad adamant about ending the training secession. He was basically telling him don't overtrain. I also remember hearing May Sr. say something along the lines of, now it's more about self preservation and being smart.

While it's obvious Floyd has slowed down, is it possible some of his decline is due to overtraining, and is May Sr. the one to step back in to get Floyd to train a little more efficiently?

We'll find out soon. I'm also reluctant to put much emphasis on anything you see in those shows. Good entertainment and promotion, that's all they are.

What dealt with said. An recovery time changes when you hit floyds age. Dont want to burnout/overtrain.

Yea I don't put a lot of stock in those promotions either, because afterall the sole purpose is to help sell the fight. But that particular segment of the show was very sincere, and that's what caught my eye.

    I agree with this.

On the one hand it makes sense to preserve Floyd's body and allow him to do shorter but sweeter workouts focused on intensity. On the other, it's been a winning formula up to now, and if they mess with it, they might sacrifice some endurance for explosiveness in the first half. We'll see.

Why is dealt_with so big on fast explosive work that can only be done is a short amount of time (aneorobic) ex sprinting and completely hates aerobic work like long distance running? I don't get it.

yeah I feel you. I've been debating with it myself too. Thinking if he should switch it up, but if it ain't broke then don't fix it.

I also wondered if he would benefit from a strength and conditioning coach, but like I said, we don't know if it could backfire

Segment where Floyd hit gym for late night fitness caught my eye. I had the perception of this 24 hour a day circus in Floyd's camp and it was interesting to see him working out with only his driver present.

i mentioned it in the thread about floyds sparring. there's a fine line between training to a peak and overtraining. if anyone would know that line well...it's floyd mayweather sr.

That's how it should be. What do all those people actually do for him, really?

Your right, May Sr. may rub a lot of people the wrong way, but if there's one thing he knows as well as boxing, it's self preservation, I'll never forget in one of the episodes of 24/7 when he revealed a six pack and was in phenomenal condition at his age. I can't help but think (despite the turmoil that's existed between him and May Jr) that him helping Floyd with his training is definately a great thing. I'm actually looking forward to seeing what Mayweather is going to show up.
