By Dan Ambrose: Floyd Mayweather Jr. recently made a bold prediction in picking Mexican star Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (48-1-1, 34 KOs) to beat IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (36-0, 33 KOs). Mayweather not only believes that Canelo will beat Golovkin, but he’ll do it easily by knocking him out. Mayweather further said that Canelo […]

It's very possible GGG isn't some slick boxer whose game is built on movement and defense, he's a come forward fighter with hard hands. Stylewise Golovkin isn't a runner he's going to be there to be hit, and while he's a fairly competent boxer he doesn't have the speed or movement we've seen to trouble Alvarez.

If Alvarez can withstand GGGs power early his speed and counter punching could be the determining factor in the fight along with his defense.
Looking at both fights I think it's a very intriguing style clash and should make for a decent fight.
For me I pick Alvarez because of defense and speed, if he can make faster more mobile fighters miss with his upper body movement then a slower fighter in Golovkin is going to have problems landing consistently. But power is the great equalizer I'd expect Alvarez to be more durable than guys like Murray and Lemuiex who both made it to the 2nd half of the fight, hopefully it comes off in Sept and we can debate the results and negotiations

None of those fighters have the timing, pressure, or ability to set up combinations that Golovkin has. You're in for a rude awakening if you think there's nothing to Golovkins game other than Power and a good chin.

It won't be easy, but I do think Canelo could beat him. And will beat him.

Canelo is a bigger version of Kel and we saw what a good performance he put up against GGG before being injured and not able to continue. Canelo is GGG's vince phillips v KT moment

I don't see it. If you said Canelo is a larger version of Garcia then I might agree.

Pressure is agree with, timing, and combination I disagree most of Canelo's high profile have been vs guys with great timing, also you overlook the fact that Alvarez has great timing as well the kid is one of the best in the sport in counter combos.
I acknowledge in my initial post Golovkin is a fairly competent boxer but you act like he's some master boxer, his power vs overmatched guys makes him look better than he actually is.
Golovkins game is predicated on pressure and power, Canelo defense and counter punching.
Stylewise this matchup favors Alvarez more than Golovkin, you overrating GGGs actual ability will end up leaving you in for a rude awakening

Every boxer no matter how great, runs into their nightmare who has you figured out. Canelo could be that guy for Golovkin. Canelo against non-stylistic threats is a completely different animal to when against his stylistic threats - the difference is huge.

Aside what some people are expecting, I believe that it turns out to be a very easy fight for Golovkin.
He has the better jab, better footwork, better power, better workrate, better stamina and defence is about equal. Only thing Canelo has an edge is is a little speed and pro experience in bigger fights, but only at a lower weight. But you can also argue that he actually lost most of those too.
I do believe however that he is a lot better now as he was against Floyd in which he looked completely lost. But he has to be, to even have the slightest chance against someone like Golovkin.

If floyd had fought and beaten GGG and not Canelo he`d be saying the opposite. Of course hes going to pick canelo. Canelo winning makes floyds win over him look better. Floyds full of sh!t! He knows his resume is terrible so hes always looking for validation.

You need to stop with the assuming. Pressure, Timing, and combinations are only three aspects of many when it comes to boxing. Calling a fighter proficient in those is far from claiming they're a master boxer. But I'm sure you just put me down on a list of "GGG fans claiming he's better than Mayweather and leonard combined".

Golovkin's jab will make the key difference in this fight. He will fight behind his jab and methodically pick Canelo apart.

Golovkin can fight more defensively if he wants too, people make too much of that Brook fight where Golovkin clearly didn't respect Brook's power and just walked through punches to land his own.
