Oscar was a part-time fighter at that point, and beat the human punching bag in Mayorga for his trinket 154 belt. The only risk factor in that fight was the size of Hoya. Floyd was favored going in clearly.

After beating Hoya, Hatton was a downgrade. Most picked Floyd to win, especially bringing Hatton up to 147, where he was exposed by Collazo. The difference between Mosley and Cotto being "exposed" as you say is that neither had a clear case for defeat as Hatton did against Collazo. And both fighters went on to get big wins later against serious opposition. Hatton has done nothing but get knocked out by Floyd and Pac, and beat some limited or shot fighters in between.

Mayweather has called out Mosley seriously only a few times, and in those cases, either Mosley had a bigger and better fight to go on towards, or he had to wait on his boss in DLH to make a decision before fighting Floyd. Mosley has called out Floyd a lot more, and on the flipside Floyd has no such reasons, particularly now. A fight with Mosley instead of Marquez would have helped answer his critics, helped his legacy a lot more, and made more dollars/sense. But it wasn't even considered by Floyd for some odd reason, just as he somehow hasn't fought any of the top Welters(Mosley, Cotto, Clottey, Margarito) despite being in the division for a long time now.

And I only compared Cotto to Ali in that both are willing to face the best fighters.

Lastly, Pac fighting Cotto at a catchweight for his Welterweight belt is sketchy. That said, he is still actually fighting Cotto, and at only one pound lower than Cotto weighed in for the Clottey fight. The one pound is not likely to take everything out of Cotto, and Cotto is arguably the best Welterweight out there, having fought and beaten two of the top Welters in Mosley and Clottey, and losing a war of a fight against Margarito in which Margarito probably had loaded gloves. There's nothing cherry-picking about it, even with the stipulations behind the fight.

Hatton was a walk in the park stylistically he knew he could dominate him, however this was a big fite,
DLH-He is still a big draw nearly beat him, but still he was well past his best
The same could be said for Chavez and Judah to be honest
