He's laid groundwork for a lot of fighters to get paid. Self promoting with social media and reality TV and owning your brand/promotional company is really useful for the next generation of fighters.

    Look at last night's card:
Broner got a million as middling contender; Jermall got 700+ and Gervontae got 350.

Now think back to when King and Arum were monopolizing the landscape snd ask what you think the fighters' purses would've been.

I don't think he laid groundwork. The top fighters were always paid and they were warriors. The only thing he did was think he created a brand, in a rather boring time in boxing where he could handpick at the right time and build a legacy that wy..

Think about how Pernell ended up. I think Bob thought of Mayweather in that light, but Floyd broke away and did it his way. It’s remarkable that a black, no heavyweight, “boring” fighter could be basically the most financially successful fighter of all time. Manny comparatively has been screwed over financially using the Bob Arum model and Bob saw way more potential there than in Floyd.

it was marketing. Floyd was confident. he was good. and he knew he was good,, but he also didn't want the challenges of a real fight, so he handpicked at the right time and relied on his skills to do the rest.. And that confidence he had was cocky, yet he didn't engage so people wanted to see him lose also. It was a good tactic. Not great fights, but it worked in a rather dull era.. And he had some guys to fight, he just waited for fight them, or didn't fight Margarito or Williams, who would have been tough tough fights for him.

That’s completely separate from what I’m talking about and not even true. I’m not gonna do that tired argument.

Honestly never really understood why people became enamored by him. He was a great fighter but his style was boring. He really knew how to market himself and I think he was good for boxing in that he brought some fans back during a really bad time, but Im glad hes done. There are some really great exciting fighters coming around now. Forget Broner he tried to use the same antics as Mayweather but he doesnt have the skills to back it up, but fighters like Davis, Hurd, Charlo, Spence, Wilder, Joshua, etc, they will make boxing comeback in a big way. Mayweather would not be as popular in this era as he was in his own.

Great defensive fighter, smart & raised in a boxing envirement that is rare. Uncle world champ, his father was a contender & poor with touches of money. Not the most exciting but the Canelo fight shows greatness among others. I thought he lost first fight to Castillo but still had some excellent wins. He did not have a Leonard era or opponents but was the greatest in his day

Neither, he's just a character that pops up from time to time. He's very similar to Theaganese, Mendoza, Molineaux, Massa Kendrick, and of course Jack Johnson and Muhammed Ali.

I'd say he's most similar to Mendoza but given Mendoza came first Mendoza is really the guy who is either a blessing or curse. Floyd only played Mendoza's script. Daniel invented side stepping and counter punching along with riling the audience through the press and price gouging the audience to see him lose while farther infuriating them by refusing to engage in ant sort of battle of attrition.

If hit and don't be hit boxing is boxing than Daniel Mendoza invented it and every practitioner of his style is nothing more than an acolyte to his affect on the sport. If you're not into pure boxing Mendoza in the man you blame who cursed you with cuties.

Likewise if you're not into promotional nonsense like Tyson Fury or Deontay Wilder's mouths Mendoza is who cursed you with them.

Hate paying tickets for sporting events? Prior to Mendoza you didn't have to. It is his equivalent of us paying too much for a PPV.

I don't think, in the big scheme, Floyd matters beyond his skill set and resume. Mendoza is the curse/blessing.
