H2H-P4P-Prime vs. Prime: Jones Jr. i don't think floyd can force jones to fight his pace. btw, i'm picking a prime Roy Jones Jr. H2H against anybody in boxing history past or present, well at least 99% of them to be safe.
Jones is still better. If Mayweather can win a title at 160 then Mayweather would be greater. If Mayweather wins a title at 154 then they'd be tied. If it's strickly H2H P4P, I'd say a prime Roy Jones Jr was more talented than any fighter in history. I'd go far enough to say a prime Roy Jones Jr was one of the greatest athletes in history ranking up with Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Tiger Woods. I think Mayweather is like Kobe or Lebron. Somebody who isn't as physically talented but who makes up for it in technique, skill and ring intellect. Mayweather is the kind of fighter who might go on to have a better resume and legacy because he's not fighting in a style which requires he throw a lot of punches or take a lot of punishment. If he fights to 35-36 years old he could very well win a title at 160.
Only Sugar Ray Robinson had what Roy Jones Jr had. This level of athlete has EVERYTHING and is the supreme athlete. They come along once every 100 years, maybe twice.
Floyd at best is like a James Toney or Bernard Hopkins. Roy Jones Jr well we saw what he did to them in his prime. They had accuracy, technique, reflexes, ring generalship, and had Toney was undefeated and P4P best in the world.
i have to diasgree with this one. actually, it's the other way around for lebron. his crazy physical abilities make up for his shortcomings. the guy is a 6'9-6'10 SF who's body is built like a solid PF but elevates like a ****ing thin SG.
Jones footspeed was super human. I haven't seen anything like that outside of a movie and to imagine he was doing that in his fights. It's not that that Roy Jones Jr dominated his opponents, he beat his opponents so bad that it looked more like a dance routine or movie than a fight.
Magic Johnson had the same or better physical abilities than Lebron James and Michael Jordan met Magic Johnson in the finals and beat him. When Michael Jordan was in his prime he was completely unstoppable, I suppose you don't remember him sticking his tongue out and dunking from the freethrow line. How about this one, Roy Jones Jr was Bruce Lee while Floyd Mayweather Jr was Chuck Norris. Both great fighters but one was a genius ahead of his time while another learned the basic fundamentals and mastered them.
Skill-wise, Mayweather is by far better than Jones was. Athletic-freak wise, though, or most dominant in his prime, have to go with Jones. He did things most people simply aren't and never could be capable of, and that list includes Floyd Mayweather. Floyd is an excellent athlete, but he is not now and never was at Jones' level. But then again, who was?
You must have not watched a oung Jones then ..Jones wins based on power !Athletsism they are about equal .
Jones had better reflexes. Watch Jones prior to 2000, here are some videos [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9pJlNvkSf1s[/ame] [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GEQ60Dda1e4[/ame] This Roy Jones Jr would completely embarrass Floyd. This was in 1995/1996, and this is the invincible Roy Jones Jr that everyone says would beat everybody including SRR. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xgAu-BFVB8Y[/ame] [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RBOgIQdqPlw[/ame] This is the Roy Jones Jr of 2000, he's past his prime here but still would embarrass Floyd. You can judge with your eyes here, can Floyd do any of the stuff Roy Jones Jr. has done in fights to championship class fighters? These fighters were the Berto's and Cottos of their era.
Jones is not so extraordinarily superior physically as so many are implying here. If he is faster, it's certainly not by much (I'd say he was not). The footwork of Jones is NOT good, and Mayweather would certainly exploit that with ease. Mosley was also considered a KO expert, so power ain't so unstoppable and it can be negated. Mayweather wins by outskilling Jones as the physical attributes aren't all that much different.
Although im not a big Berto fan ,Hall was not as good as Berto for as good as Reggie Johnson was at middle he was past it at LH, Even at MW comparing Reggie to Cotto is pushing it. Anyways what does Berto and Cotto have anything to do with Floyd?
