Moneywise yes, Significant? Not even close.

FOTC, Ali-Foreman, Louis- Schmeling I, II, Duran - SRL, Jeffries - Johnson, etc are all significantly bigger.

In my opinion the most significant fights are Louis Schmeling II and Johnson - Jeffries. Maybe even Johnson - Burns.

Moneywise converted into today's currency would probably result in the Demsey - Tunney fights as being the biggest.

It says a lot about todays sport that this is being touted as the biggest fight ever.

In terms of money, yes it will be.
But in terms of cultural impact, or just plain sporting significance, not at all.

Money wise yes no doubt, viewer wise possibly true. The whole world is now wired, fights can now be seen via satelite or online anywhere in the world.

Pac also adds a large Asian dimension into the audience. Just decades ago China was a commie country clueless to world events and India was dirt poor to even care. Those 2 populations alone today could swamp the entire boxing audience 30 years ago.

I seriously doubt China was aware of anything other than Mao Tse Tung in the 70's when Thrilla in Manila happened. All foreign news were censored while they were under communism. And made in Japan was the joke brand in the 70's.

Probably some of the very few better off Asians probably did, but most Asian countries were dirt poor in the 70's. If you wanna see how they were back then, look at Philippines now as it was considered the most advanced country then. Except it got stuck in the same level while the rest of Asia took off.

I remember "made in Japan"....it was almost a cliche back in those days.
Today, I'd cherish anything made in Japan compared to all the ubiquitous **** that churned out in China. Quality was a real difference, though Japanese products, as good as the were, were a poor man's "made in Germany" in terms of imports, and definitely inferior to "made in the USA", back when we actually manufactured things before outsourcing became the rule.

    No

The sad state of the sport has more to do with the hype. Great fights are not made, and champions don't want to risk anything.

This fight should have happened many years ago.... It is a shame.

Not even as big as Chavez Whitaker or Tyson Holyfield... If one goes further back than that he could list many others...

    Hell no!

To do that it, has to get more media coverage, than a significant event in a world war!

    Naive.

Research how long Chinese people have lived in the significant countries of the Western world. If you think they were all running away from the big bad commies, you must believe in Father Christmas.

Bejing has always been aware of everything that goes on in all parts of the world. That is why once they decided to open up the markets they went from sh it kicking rice farmers to manufacturing most of the worlds consumer goods in the relative blink of an eye.
