I think the battle between the "Z-Boys" Zarate vs Zamora, was a better, bigger fight than this charade coming up. You had two excellent...Zarate was great...fighters at their peak, both undefeated..and it was an epic slugfest...the "Cadillac" of slugfests, as a matter of fact...far eclipsing the first Ward-Gatti fight.

This fight was only "big" because of the combined big mouths of Haugen and Don King. It would have been a fight of little consequence had Haugen just shut up about all those "taxi drivers" on JCC;s record and his rather contemptuous remarks about the Mexican fans...and Don King's successful efforts to inflame the situation even more, at Haugen's peril,of course, by running his mouth as well.

Why do you call it a charade?

    Absolutely.

Pacquiao was really amazing people 5 years ago. When he beat Hatton and Cotto like he did. Now he's just been 'winning fights', and was KO'd badly by Marquez. He's still regarded as a great fighter but back then he was bewildering people.

Mayweather too has slipped a bit, almost certainly.

Both of them might well be at the stage where they are due to lose anyway, to someone.
Back in 2010 they were really a class apart.

Whereas this fight is only " big " due to the size of the mouths of Arum, Haymon, and a few others 5 years after it should have taken place. As stated by a poster above, at that time BOTH were a league above everyone else. Since then Mayweather has started to look vulnerable, and the other geezer has been sparked, and looked none too clever in other fights as well.

mayweather-pacquiao is going to be an event equivalent to the NBA finals or the Super Bowl. yes is it is the biggest fight in history. it isn't the greatest, but it definitely is the biggest most massive boxing event of all time. i doubt there would be a bigger fight than this in the future.
