A historical and critical assesment please, based on youre opinion as to the merits of Mayweather being classified as the greatest ever, or the reasons why he is not.

It depends on whether or not he wins his next two fights for me. If he beats Canelo then yeah he can make that claim. Also it matters how he beats them.

Look, he's undefeated. He's been champion in what, 8 weight classes now? He's just beat Cotto who is probably an ATG or at least HOF material, and if he beats Canelo and is still undefeated it's going to put him in the top 5 ATG. All depends on what he does in these next 2-3 years really but he has the chance to be the greatest boxer who ever lived depending on who he fights and how he wins or loses.

You have the attitude that no matter who he fights over the next 3 years that he will never ever beat SRR and some others. Mayweather is not going to be able to have 100 fights even if he could go undefeated in 100 fights.

Mayweather already is the greatest fighter of the century. That is a fact, he is fighter of the century. SSR was fighter of the previous century and that is a fact so in that context he already is the greatest.

But he's not the greatest of all time. To do that he has to be the greater than any fighter and any century. I think is in the top 5 though if he beats Canelo.

To be 1 he would have to move up to 160 and do something no one expects or take on Sergio Martinez.

Some people have the opinion that no matter who Mayweather beats he will never compare to fighters of previous centuries. I think he's fighter of the century right now, but not of the previous century. Sugar Ray Robinson was fighter of the previous century. You go back further and there are fighters who were great and so on.

But I think Mayweather will definitely be in the top 5 if he beats Canelo. For many he's already top 10. He's in my top 10 right now. Can you think of 10 fighters who are greater than Floyd? I can't. That is why he's top 10.

And I can't think of any fighter in this century who is better. Kind of like we couldn't think of any fighter in the last century who was better than Sugar Ray Robinson.

SRR is too big for Mayweather. He would never have beaten him.

Mayweather is the most talented boxer since SRL

Mayweather is the same height and has a longer reach than LaMotta did.

    Just sayin.

I mean a century. I know what 100 years is. SRR was the greatest fighter in the last hundred years. Meaning from 1900-2000. Floyd is the best fighter from 2000-2013. Basically Floyd is the greatest fighter of our century and I don't see anyone challenging that either.

In the 1800-1900 era there were many fighters who were really good but I don't know who the best fighter of that century would be. I would have to study films.
