Go ahead, what has Pac done without a household name? He barely broke 200k against David Diaz. **** even with Morales he did only slight better than Mayweather-Baldomir.
Unless you think David Diaz is the best lightweight in the world, I'd be careful about throwing stones. And if I throw out names like Nate Campbell, Timothy Bradley, and Kendall Holt, you'll play the "marquee fight" card, which is exactly what Mayweather has already been doing for years. The game isn't "new" just because it's Manny playing it.
Mega-fight for me personally? I voted yet Mega-fight using the criteria laid out by Realspitts? Well, I don't give a **** about the general public and never have, so
different weight divisons. lower weights traditionally will not get some mainstream viewers that welters and other heavier boxers get. when floyd was at 130 or 135, was he a PPV player already? pac already was at 130. jmm was not a household name but that fight reached around 525k buys iirc and that was at 130.
I think Mega-Fights are defined by their crossover into the mainstream. This being Floyd's big comeback fight after a two year layoff against the best Mexican fighter in the sport on Mexican Independance day pretty mcuh qualifies it
looks like everyone has their own definition of what a "mega fight" means. to most boxing fans = yes to the casual fans & general public = NO so with that said, overall this isnt a mega fight. most of us will be tuning in anyway, so who gives a ****.
That's the problem though, it's a slang term without a concrete definition. To some, "mega-fight" is going to mean simply "very appealing match-up", and if in their subjective opinion it is, they're going to label it as such.
besides the baldomir fight what else has been boring? If you say DLH-Floyd then your just being a full blown hater. btw floyd > pac in terms of draw power.
who the **** are you to judge other peoples opinions joyboy.. reguardless of what anyone says, that fight never lived up to its expectations as far as the fight that was supposed to save boxing.
Absolutely correct. What's mind ****ing me a little bit here is that voting "no" on this poll casts a negative light on this fight, when the truth is that the vast majority of recent "megafights" have basically just showcased Oscar getting his ass handed to him in some form or fashion. Megafights are great for the public attention they generate, but they can be simply awful in terms of fight quality. They are good for the sport, but recently it's debatable whether they are actually good sporting events. What was the last "megafight" that actually lived up to our standards as hardcore fans? Margo - Cotto comes to mind, although that one has obviously been badly marred.
