Nobody else is stopping so many of his fights. It sometimes seems he does this "I will stop this thing, if you don't fight back" speech in the corner as much for the camera as for the fighter it seems. Not to speak of the dramatic "Hollywood"-towel drop. Could it be, that he still wants to grab the spotlight, even in the case of a loop-sided lose? That he wants people to talk about him as a reasonable guy, that protects his fighters?
he had the whole season od contender to do this hollywood treatment. i think he's just a ****ed up cornerman. His advise is bullshii too
No, he looks out for his boxers, he know there more then just the ring,,,,plus paulie a little want to be, so mcgirrt just played to the punk side of him, so he stopped the fight, now he probley giving him some suger daddy speach that paulie slurrping up like he was with his boyfriend,,,mcgirt gives you advice, you don't listen, he going to stop the fight,,,,good call on mcgirt part, an another good call, taping gatti wife, well who could blame him...oh, maybe gatti
My thing is this if you tell a fighter you're gonna stop the fight if he doesn't show you something out there, allow him the opportunity to show you something out there. To me that requires at least a 1/2 a round not a mere :48 seconds. That was bullspit!
Whether McGirt likes to be noticed as a compassionate trainer is irrelevant imo........McGirt may very well like that spotlight he gets in the corner when the camera turns to him telling his fighter, "I'm not going to let this beating continue if you dont respond!" ......bottom line is that all of the fights that Buddy has thrown the towel in.....I dont think anyone has a good enough case to state that McGirt was'nt in the right to do so. .......and listen, in most instances McGirt goes beyond himself not to throw in the towel...... Most of the time he's warning his fighter (and at the same time trying to light a fire under him) for several rounds that he will stop it, if he does'nt start responding by fighting back. A trainer has to know his fighter......sometimes a fighter will completely tank it if you tell him you're thinking about stopping the fight. If anybody noticed, Paulie had his head down in his corner throughout McGirts instruction......probably not only from fatigue, but from the fact that he was resigned that there was nothing in his arsenal that would help him to follow through on McGirts instruction. I'd advise some of you who are saying now that McGirt was wrong in his throwing in the towel, to relook at his instruction and warning to Paulie right before the 11th, ......then take a look at the beggining of the round right before McGirt throws in the towel. ......Hatton came out for that 11th round with the intentions to finish the job......Hatton laid it thick to Paulie......and with McGirt sensing that Hatton was out to finish the job, and his fighter was'nt going to do a damn thing but hold on to Hatton's thigh's. I'm telling you, McGirt very well may have saved his fighter the embarrasment of getting KTFO in the physical sense! Slightly off topic.....if there is one thing I cant stand, is a beaten fighter in his corner giving no indication that he's capable of fighting back......the fighter even giving subtle hints that a towel being thrown in might be in order....... No fighter even though he might want out of a fight, wants to verbally tell his corner he wants the fight stopped, simply because he does'nt want the label of "quitter" bestowed upon him by assholes who've never had the courage to step into a ring. Thats why imo, it is essential that the sport of boxing have more trainers with the mindset of Buddy McGirt......I've seen too many onesided shellaking's thoughout the years that have gone the distance that just should'nt have been. There are too many trainers that just would never throw in the towel no matter what.:-( If there were more Buddy McGirts out there, there might be less fighters that slurr their speech. I'm telling you guys, a Buddy McGirt type in your corner can be the difference in the long run to a fighters mental health function. The difference between mental health function and Meldrick Taylor!:?
McGirt was right. No need to let Paulie take unnecessary punishment. He wasn't even listening to his corner anyway.
Ricky did not allow him to do anything just superior strengh and speed inside ricky was mugging him one thing came out last night probably a broken relation between Paulie and Buddy poor kid was almost crying after the stoppage (his first) he pushed Buddy asking him Why,Why one positive thing at least they did not throw the towel in the ring.
McGirt is like a lot of boxing people these days, rather wimpy. In the old days, trainers and refs let fights go to their NATURAL conclusion. The ref should've tossed that goddamn towel back in that *****'s face, if he wasn't every bit as woosified.
