Anyone that isn't prepared to get their brains scrambled for a living is going to make a pretty crappy boxer, no matter their dimensions or levels of natural athleticism. It isn't the best athletes in the US that have traditionally made the best boxers but the most determined ones. Frazier was an awful athlete but his will couldn't be broken. Same with Rocky. These guys just loved to fight because it was in their nature and the nature of the environment they grew up in.

As much as I hate Wilder I'm really impressed with how far he managed to get as what was in essence a failed basketball player. But I suspect he's very much an exception to the rule. It's guys from dirt poor ghettos that are going to fill up the division from below, and more and more of these are outside the US.

I wish I could like this ten times.

Like every young boy in every other country dreams of being a boxer. They don't have Soccer players, wrestlers, weight-lifters, water polo-ists, rugby players, basketball players, etc. It's all boxing all the time in UK and Ukraine.

America doesn't have a lot of great fighters right now, and Americans (and I am one of them) should just be gracious about it. There is no such thing as a potential champion, and it just makes those who are saying this ludicrous crap look small.
