Micheal (Double M) Moorer is one of the best light heavyweights ever in boxing and the First SouthPaw ever to become Heavy Weight Champion!!! He had a great career and is most known now for losing to an old George Foreman by KO. He was dominating that Foreman fight before being knocked out. Record 52-4-1 (40ko's) Trained by Emmanuel Steward and Teddy Atlas Noteable Wins: Bert Cooper, James Bonecrusher Smith, Evander Holyfield,,Francois Botha Discuss.....[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e5Unz7Mlf6s[/ame] This content is protected
Maybe. What goes against him: He won a minor title at light heavyweight and didn't beat ranked opponents. Then again Ingemar Johansson got in on a single win at HW (against Floyd Patterson)
Quick Fact: He scored knockouts in each of his first 26 bouts, placing him in the exclusive list of boxers who have won at least 20 fights in a row by knockout, alongside such other fighters as Foreman, Wilfredo Gómez, Carlos Zarate, [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Mugabi"]John Mugabi[/ame], [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aaron_Pryor"]Aaron Pryor[/ame] and [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edwin_Valero"]Edwin Valero[/ame]. Nice Group of Fighters right there!!!
I think he definitely deserves it, 2nd light-heavy to move up and win the heavyweight crown and the first southpaw heavyweight champ. That alone is a part of history and deserves its merit.
no. he's a good fighter and all.. but no. beaten some good fighters, and an ATG in holyfield, but that's not enough to put him in the HOF. @ beefman180 yes, he's a former lightheavy who moved up and became champ.. that deserves credit, but it's not enough. saying he was the first southpaw heavyweight champ means nothing... would you give credit to first heavyweight champ who had dread locks, or a bald head?... no, exactly.
What does a hair style have to do with how you fought? I'd understand the example if it had anything to do with the sport but it doesn't. Being the first southpaw to win a heavyweight title means something because in the many many years of the history of the sport, there hadn't been a single boxer (of which there have been many goods and greats) to accomplish that feat yet. It's a record the same as Foreman and Hopkins breaking the record for oldest champ is. You would count those as legitimate accomplishments so I don't see why you wouldn't count becoming the first ever southpaw heavyweight champion as one.
Take a look at the names in the Boxing Hall of Fame and you can prety much throw what you said out the window. With the low standards the Boxing HOF sets I do think Michael Moorer should be let it.
