Well Double M was a Light Heavyweight Champion and a 2 Heavyweight Champion so give the man his rightful spot in the Hall of Fame!!!
I agree. He beat a prime Holy and who knows how many more upsets he might of scored had Foreman not ruined him. Moorer was a hell of a fighter in his prime, but his rep for underachiever might of hampered his road to greatness. Talented he was.
:good Yea thats the only thing that i didnt like about Moorer was his work ethics. He seemed to non chalant at times!
If Moorer stayed at light heavy he is now a certified HOFer. That's what i meant by leaving his legacy on the table. A bit like DLH at 140 he moved up too quick. It was more to do with chasing that cheese of the glamour division then any weight problems. Trust me. Granted, the division was weak, but Moorer only won the WBO title and that counts against him. I believe he's underrated as a result. Moorer was an absolute beast at 175lbs. He should be talked about on the same lines as Foster and Spinks but he didn't create that legacy, domination and longevity. He gained almost 45lbs in his first heavyweight bout. Did he really grow 45lbs in a month?
He couldn't get any dam place to fight...he fought out of his town's HS gym in lots of fights. The WBO was not considered a belt back then by the Americans. Thus technically becoming a three time heavyweight champion, WBO (1992) WBA/IBF (1994) IBF (19961997). It should be noted that during Moorer's actual fighting career, the WBO wasn't considered an authentic belt and he was generally regarded as a two time heavyweight champ. Since around 2004 the WBO have become recognized by some as yet another major belt, Yes three time champ, and some good comp. He should be in.
Is Brian Viloria a future hall of famer? He just won his third title this weekend and has faced a number of top 10 guys. Leo Gamez won four titles in three different weight classes and always fought the best, where's his spot? I've NEVER heard someone say he should be in the Hall. How about Virgil Hill, who accomplished about 10x more than Moorer at LHW and then moved up to twice capture cruiserweight titles? It seems asinine to me that people are even considering him. Putting someone like Moorer in opens the gates for literally hundreds of guys around his level of accomplishment.
I mean, what are even his top 3 wins? A razor thin decision over Evander Holyfield in a fight where Holyfield had a documented heart attack in the ring, and then??? Bert Cooper? Shot Bonecrusher Smith who lost his previous fight to Greg Page? And then who? Vaughan Bean who had never before faced a fighter with a winning record and got soundly whooped every time he ever stepped up? Franz Botha, whose career best win against Axel Schulz was stripped because of steroid use? Or maybe Schulz himself, who had lost his previous two fights to Botha and fat old George Foreman? Maybe he could have been great, but a good run of crushing cans and one great performance does not a great fighter make.
Moorer was a good fighter 2 weight champ and unifed champ at heavy he also reclamed his IBF tital after the loss to Forman and whent out on a high beating cruser champ Jirov in his last fight should be enough to get into the HOF concidering the standard they set.
