I'm watching ESPN Classic Ringside on Evander Holyfield right now, and they have Michael Moorer on to discuss their first fight. On the show, Moorer speaks much differently than I remember. He puts his words together much more slowly and just seems a little out of it in general. He used to be a lot more expressive and talkative. Does anyone know if Moorer has been having health problems? Is he punch drunk? I hope not. It would be sad to see another damaged fighter.
I find it hard to believe that he would be punch drunk, as there are not too many fights where he took major damage, only the Stewart, Cooper, and Holyfield 2 fights come to mind.
I didn't see the ESPN special but I've generally remembered Moorer to be somewhat slow in his speech. A lot of the damage can come from sparring sessions. Terry Norris didn't seem to take prolonged beatings (his lack of chin kind of prevented that) but he slurs his words pretty badly. Moorer might've been in some heavy gym wars in the Kronk.
Still does. Hes not punch drunk, but hes got some emotional issues to say the least. He actually is one of the better well spoken fighters.
Seemed to speak alright to me when HBO showed him working at the Wild Card Gym alongside Freddy Roach helping him work with Manny Pacquiao.
What Tua did to him was just viscous, it must have done something to him he was out for a while. Maybe this was not a prolonged beating but I think it was worse.
Why does being punchdrunk have to be only from "prolonged beatings"? The Foreman and especially the Tua ko's could have very well helped expedite the process.
Moorer was always, to me anyway, rather lucid and well spoken..that might make it easy to discern whether or not he's punchy today by comparing the difference in his speech patterns.
as far as i can tell moorer speaks very clearly these days..if he was slurring words most likely he prolly had one too many drinks lol
norris has somewhat improved. he sounds ok recently. he has always had a mild southernish drawl to him. and he was never really a speaker...shy if anything
