    sugay ray robinson
    carlos monzon
    roy jones jr. (young)
    thomas hearns
    marvin hagler
    sugar ray leonard
    bernard hopkins
    felix trinidad

    all fought in there....

can't imagine a division with more big names..?

maybe welter weight, also featherweight, with morales, barrera, hamed, pepp, kid chocolate. but nevertheless doesnt come close to the names at middleweight.

    Lightweight!

How can you leave it out!

BENNY LEONARD, Duran, Whittaker, Gans, Armstrong, Canzoneri, ROss, Robinson, Mayweather, Williams, McFarland, McLarnin, Angott, Brown, Carter, Ortiz, Chavez, De La Hoya, Mosley, Marquez.

The amount of greats that have fought in the top level of that division is astounding.

    Yeah, it's lightweight.

1888-1903 that division was as tough as diamonds.

Middleweight and welter both beasting too.

you left out monzon......aside from that half your list started and/or had their best years at welter so really that gets ahead of middleweight in my book

Can't really say which one is the best that depends on the fighters themselves but if I had to pick one its WW. Robinson, Leonard, and Duran despite being a natural lightweight had their best performances here.

I think it goes LW, WW, MW, LHW, then HW never followed the Lighter weights so I am not sure where to place them. LHW and Hw could easily be flipped. All the jr or middle divisions are to new to be put into consideration.

    I'd probably agree.

HW is my favourite division but in pales in comaparison to Lw and WW.

The thing is with those two, a lot of the greats fought in both so it's hard to split them, but I think it is Lw just about.

When you consider speed and power, I would say yes Middleweight is the best weight.

the middleweight division epitomizes Boxing and tough guys, hardmen.

they are big enough to be viewed as Bigmen without the plodding cumbersome slower style (obviously not all bigger men), lean, strong and aguile/athletic. Some divisions come close in great linages, but the fact that middleweights are Bigger adds to their appeal.

remember the money and greater interest always looked toward the Bigmen, namely HWs, but middleweights were just more exciting at Top Level. Plus in bygone days TOP middleweights fought Light-Heavies & Heavyweights too!
