Is middleweight the weakest division in boxing today?

    To be honest.. I wouldn't count Sturm out against Abraham.

    me too, he has a good chance of beating AA IMO, wonder why they wont make that fight, that'll be huge in germany..lots of money for everyone

    154 is a lot deeper than 160.


    154 - Paul Williams, Daniel Santos, Vernon Forrest, Sergiy Dzinziruk, James Kirkland, Alfredo Angulo, Sergio Martinez, Joachim Alcine.

    160 - Kelly Pavlik, Arthur Abraham, Felix Sturm, Sebastian Sylvester, Khoren Gevor, Giovanni Lorenzo, John Duddy, Randy Griffin.

    Which list honestly looks better to you?

    why is PW campaigning at 160 if there is a huge future at 154

    Paul Williams campaigns at a different division every week, I listed him at 154 because he has a title there.

    154 is stronger by far. You got great titleholders like Paul Williams, Vernon Forrest.... Sergei Dzindiruk, and Daniel Santos who are both very underrated. Strong contenders like Sergio Martinez, Joachim Alcine, Joel Julio and Cory Spinks.. and up and comers like Angulo and Kirkland.. 154 is strong from top to bottom.. 160 sucks outside of AA and Pavlik.

    I take the multiple good fights at 154 over the one good fight at 160, 10 times out of 10

    They are both more or less equally weak.

    And several of the smaller divisions are weaker.

    The reason we tend to call MW weak is because we expect so much of MW. It is traditionally a strong division so if it is on par with other divisions, we see it as very weak.

    You have to be out of reality just to make a proposition like that. Mw is actually one of the best right now, as sad as it may sound...

    I'll put it this way.. when Abraham and Pavlik can no longer make 160 then the middleweight division might possibly be as weak as heavyweight.

    I do expect something more from the HW division, but right now it's exceptionally weak. When a faded former 154 pounder who wasn't exactly " elite " to begin with Raul Marquez is beating an up and coming prospect.. things aren't looking very good for said division.

    Abraham is having trouble making weight at 160. He's not gonna be able to stay at MW much longer. Pavlik-Abraham should happen this summer. It looks like it'll be Pavlik-Mora instead.
