Do think he is getting a bit too much hype, even after his last few performances. I myself think he is a very good fighter, but I don't see greatness or his reaching ATG status in the future.

He fights those who are in the top 5 !!!!!

Gayweather is considered the best ever and hasn't fought a legitimate
    welterweight in the top 5.

    So, go figure!!!!!

Absolutely. To the point where he can get a good win over someone like Clottey and people are deflated. Cotto has been the very definition of overrated. He's a fan favorite, but he's never been as good as the fans or even certain so called 'experts' will tell you. Accomplished solid fighter though.

Well, he fought Judah which I recently saw a thread where he was counted as one of the top welters for Cotto so I guess that's one...but the thread isn't about Floyd lets stay on key here. I try to avoid arguments in threads, especially the childish ones that occur VERY often.

Cotto tries to incorporate the styles of the P.R greats.....that is where he gets himself in trouble when he attempts to emulate Benitez on the ropes.

I have had the pleasure of meeting Benitez on a few occasions of which
for some reason began to open up as if he had known me for a long time.

Dude went through some serious betrayal.....anyways....I don't have an avatar, but if I did it would be the one you have and none other.

If he had only trained with the intensity that Cotto trains with....

I agree, even though he may have pulled it out he just didn't LOOK like the winner throughout and after the fight.

Sorry, but there was nothing childish meant about that.....it is just a point I made about perception.
Mayweather is considered the best ever by many....

The point is about Cotto....he is not considered great...so, how can he be overrated when he has earned it every step of the way by fighting the best out there?

Yep, Benitez was a terrific BOXER who had tremendous counter punching skills, which is levels above Cotto's. Also, Benitez was at home on the ropes and was an expert at setting traps. You can tell when guys like Hearns, Leonard, and Duran actually retreat when your laying on the ropes. Cotto just isn't comfortable in those situations and isn't as good at laying the traps. His style seems to be suited much more differently.

The loss to Margarito has definately had an effect on him. He needs a Freddie Roach coach.

Cool:good, well by most here and in the boxing world he seems to be considered the "next coming" and his skillset gets exaggerated. Yes, he has fought the best in his career and hope he continues to. But, I don't see his skills and ring smarts reaching ATG status.

Cotto is a very good fighter but he is vulnerable. If he gets the Pacquiao fight it will be a difficult one but winnable. I really do think he needs a world class trainer.

after re-watching the margo-cotto fight it is quite obvious that the man has lost his self-belief, he looks jaded.

He is a top 5 p4p boxer in the world, so in that regards; he is not over-rated.

but taking into account what we now are seeing, and compare that with the hype pre-margo; then ya, he looks over-rated

If he gets his mojo back, he has the heart to do anything

he is missing a world class trainer so badly, if he had one from day one who knows how good he may of been

he eats uppercuts fight after fight and still does nothing to stop it.... he needs a new top class trainer fast
