Or is there a boxer who ruined his career more than Tyson did? If he had a conservative and healthy lifestyle and a stable social life he could have ruled for much longer.
let me see.won all the major titles without help from his brother???????????? undisputed champion.2 time unified champion id say he had a great career........who was the last undisputed champion??????????
His competition was kind of weak though. bums, journeymen and champs that should have retired already.
you mean like Vitalis and Wlads comp??????????????how many hof's or atg's have either of them beat?? I can name 2 for tyson both were former lineal champs.Spinks,Homles
No that title goes to IKE IBEABUCHI, Yes if Tyson made better decision he would've extended his career & dominance but at least he did reach to top. Wasted talent category would include guys like Ibeabuchi, David Tua, Ray Mercer, James Toney etc
Tyson still left a legacy, his short time at the top was enough to demonstrate his immense talent. There are bigger wastes imo, Bowe for starters, Ibeabuchi, Sanders, Toney, and many others.
Mercer was the WBO Champ and Toney?? I think the TS is confusing wasted talent with could have done much more with talent. Toney won the MW, SMW, CW titles. Also, Mercer could have gotten the nod over Lewis which I thought Mercer won.
The Wbo back then was a "joke" belt. That's why Mercer vacated it so quickly, As a matter of fact the WBO was just newly created Ray was the 2nd one to hold the belt. When I put toney in the category I'm speaking of James toney the HW. Had he taken the his career seriously at heavy and layed off the Ice cream he would've been more successful. I'm not dumping on Mercer and more I think about it maybe you're right he may not belong on the list but I feel he should've had a more success. There are some big let downs in his career. Cough, cough jessie ferguson fight, cough
:dealFor all his wasted talent,Ike was magnificent comedy value. His "monarchy" complex was hilarious.
dominated half a decade and was undisputed HW champion, no talent wasted, what more is there to achieve?
I think the fire in Tysons belly drove him to be so ferocious in the ring up to say 1990 was very much the same fire that played into ruining his career. You could feel it was all so personal for him, so his ring life and private life at that point were one and the same that post 90 it seemed to slowly consume him So to me its kind of a chicken and egg thing.
