Michael Dokes is the poster child cocaine tragedies that wiped out a lot of the brightest stars from the eighties and nineties.

He's not a waste of talent, because we're still talking about the youngest unified heavy weight champ ever, the shortest but most explosive heavyweight there ever was. He pretty much did it all from a belts, plaudits and commercial stand point just not for many years.

Exactly, and within the ropes he really put that style together to maximum effect. For two years there he really was peak, really like nothing that had ever been seen in the heavyweight division, so don't let his lack of competition distract from that

When you say waste of talent I think more about guys like Zab Judah all the way down to the Bojados of the world

Always thought Prince Naseem was. He had all time great speed and power imo, just not the fundamentals or boxing IQ.

Tyson was far from being the biggest waste of talent.

He made the most of the talent that he had when he was young and motivated, but even in his prime he was hardly as dominant, as Wlad was in his second career after losing to Brewster, or Lewis was in many of his fights.

Tyson struggled even in his prime against certain styles.

Wlad and Lewis went through years of their careers as world champion, in which they did not even lose a round. Tyson was never that kind of world champion. The same can be said of Ali, lost many rounds in his prime and went life and death with many routine opponents.

Both Floyd & Floyd were waste of talents.

Arum micro-managing Pac with crap inhouse fights towards the end of his career and Floyd just cruising through cherry picks.

Two super special fighters with lack luster ends. Guess it's not maintainable to remain competing against the toughest opponents though.

    Tyson didn't waste his talent.

The guys who wasted their talent we've never even heard of.

I think op means more of the upside of tyson

Losing to douglas was not a good look especially in the way he lost

The prison term took yrs away to

The embarrassments his career endured in the ring overshadowed alot of his accomplishments

His career after prison was a huge circus

The whole lennox fight & promotion was just a embarrassment of epic proportions

Especially in the post fight my ***** wiped blood off lennox cheek like a ***** that ****ed me up

Tim weatherspoon is definitely a waste of talent

Tyson is one of the most overrated fighters ever. Doing his so called peak most of the fighters he beat were older, washed up smaller guys. When he faced a taller bigger guy like the average Buster Douglas he couldn't do anything.

Lewis destroyed him. Yes Tyson was washed up at that point which is another negative against Tyson. He was actually younger than Lewis. So no excuse. It's not our fault Tyson wasn't dedicated and didn't take care of himself. Kind of like how everyone want to use the excuse Pac was washed up without even mentioning May is older than Pac, so no excuse. If you are a guy that can't sustain it like Tyson or do it against higher quality opponents then I can only rank you so high. The three best fighters of the Tyson era were Lewis, Holyfield and Tyson. Without question Lewis was the best of those three and Tyson was the worst of those three.

This guy has a good take on Tyson:

Victor Ortiz comes to mind, all the talent in the world and didn't do much with it, at least Tyson made some serious achievements .
