This skill is basically what allowed him to go the distance. Spence definitely tried to stop him in the later part of the fight but couldn't catch him clean enough to do so.

Coming up it's what I used to say impressed me most about him. Just his fundamentals, although he uses the basic by the book boxibg styles it's at a ridiculous level. Yes, his ability to parry/block is a level abovemost, but spence's offense was also fairly basic, lacking feints.

It’s a lot easier to block punches when you are hardly throwing any punches yourself and not taking any chances. It’s a good strategy for going the distance but not for winning the fight. Mikey clearly didn’t really mind losing this one...he just wanted to cash out and avoid losing to someone in his own weight class (Loma).
