Riyadh Season - Wikipedia Saudi Arabia just because they host events in LA, doesn't mean they're back. Ufc also is partly owned by Saudi and china. I dont particular like that at all. Seats are super expensive at these arenas, nose bleed for these events can run you between 700-1k Is the sport dying ? no, but it is for the common man. It's a sport for the rich and famous. It has been for a long time.
It's important boxing remain an Olympic sport. Amateur boxing is the world wide feeding system for pro boxing. It helps build a world-wide talent and fan base.
Just seen a news post alleging that UFC ppv numbers are so bad that ESPN isnt happy with their deal, and fighters are unhappy because their ppv points arent getting triggered or are negligible. UFC definitely has the edge right now on boxing, thanks to boxing being its own worst enemy, but maybe things arent as peachy as I had assumed for UFC.
No. Boxing killed itself without any help... Boxing is dead. Anybody saying otherwise is living in a bubble... Boxing is as niche as you could get. It has never been that bad... Bivol vs Beterbiev is the big fight these days ? Oh my.... who knows who these two are really ?
Yes, MMA is not really living great stelar days either, really.... still much bigger than Boxing, but they are niche too..
The UFC pretty much killed their own original PPV model with the oversaturation. It worked back when their entire yearly output was monthly PPV with a handful of free cards here and there. That way the cards were able to stay stacked and the product didnt outstay its welcome. I'm talking like the mid/late 00s here when people would buy every card regardless of the names, watch them at bars, they'd get released on DVD etc etc. We are a long way from that now. BUT, from a business perspective they are in a position where, just like the WWE, they can get away with it. The UFC brand itself and distribution rights are worth a ****ing fortune. They can get billions in flat fees simply for producing X amount of content per year regardless of the quality. Plus ticket prices are much higher, and even if people dont buy PPVs as much thats offset by them costing much more too. They're too big to fail at this point pretty much.
