Yes, co-workers are the types of people who pay the bills and buy the tickets and are still talking about Liddell. And Im not trying to argue money with you. Just trying to point out that more people tune in when there's a mean looking guy knocking people unconscious. Brock looked to fit the bill for a while, and people keep tuning in hoping GSP will get back what 1st broke him through in the Hughes rematch. But it doesnt mean they will keep tuning in indefinitely and there are very few, if any aside from Cain, who can take up the same mantle
"This [deal] is like getting into baseball or basketball 10 years after it was launched. I've been covering sports for a hell of a long time and to me, this is the most unique opportunity I've ever seen in my life." FOX Sports chairman and CEO David Hill. AKA the most powerful man in sports TV. Yeah, I think the UFC is going to get bigger in the next few years. :hat
ufc ppv numbers have been steadily dropping for years, boring ass **** watered down cards fulled of hugging and kissing ruined the sport **** zuffa btw the ppv numbers average about 100k, dont believe that bull**** zuffa puts out
Well, the Fox TV empire is going to pay them a minimum of $90 million per year, every year for the next seven years. And that's not counting the promotion that Fox itself will do all over its other shows. So that's far more money than any organization in the sport has ever seen before, and it's ironclad. The deal is signed, and the TV guys signing the contract basically have bottomless pockets. :hat
I'm not arguing any of this but the fact that GSP and Brock may now be on the downward slide does not mean that they didn't replace Liddell. It may mean that the UFC needs someone to replace them ultimately but both of them clearly took the UFC to another level in 2009/2010. On the "you need a mean guy knocking people out" that is one way to draw money but let's not be too restrictive here. Oscar De La Hoya is the biggest ppv draw in the history of boxing and he hardly fits that description. George Foreman was meaner and knocked people out more destructively than Ali, but Ali was still the bigger draw. Manny Pacquiao is not billed as a mean guy and Floyd Mayweather rarely knocks anyone out but both are still the biggest stars in boxing. There are many different ways that a fighter can connect with an audience and its that connection which matters.
Good for them. There's plenty of 3 second clips of wrestlers throwing right hands that they can edit into a 30 second promo to make MMA look as exciting as it once was Proof in the pudding will be after they tune in to the likes of Kos v Daley and GSP v Shields and keep them there. I guess Dana could pay people to watch these types of fights
Wrong on all counts. Firstly Zuffa don't put numbers out. All numbers are estimates sourced from the cable companies (usually by Dave Meltzer). Secondly the UFC broke its own record in 2008, 2009 and 2010. This year is a fall due to injuries to key fighters and the loss of BJ Penn as lightweight champion (Frankie drawing less than half the numbers against Maynard that BJ did against him last year).
yeah because multi million dollar television deals are signed on dying figures.. your right mate forget the hard facts, id rather get my info from rumours started by trolls on internet forums..
Exactly. GSP didn't win his status in Canada by his style of fighting. It was not only his skills or his standing as an ATG that made him a superstar. It was the way he carries himself, the way he speaks and the way he represents Canada to the world. Canadians love him because he is a gold-plated ATG in his sport, he is humble about it and they feel like they can trust him to represent them with honour. :hat
Where was the several-hundred-million dollar, multi-year network TV commitment five years ago? Or do you think that Fox Sports is in the habit of throwing that type of money and prime-time broadcast hours guarantee on a whim to just any failing organization? :hat
Why do you keep making the same post, Ive replied already, move on and agree to disagree. Brock and GSP's numbers got them the deal, but I cant see anyome doing the same in the future, no matter how much money Fox throws at it. Now hopefully we get another cross over star, JJ and Cv maybe, but there's no one else imo But you repeating the same point 5 times in a thread is tiresome :hat
