Except Bodybuilding is FAR more popular than MMA. The problem with the UFC is the ridiculous hype the UFC and the fans give the brand. The reality is the sport isn't half as big as the fans or the UFC think it is.
It's been reported that one of Kimbo's MMA bouts in 2008 during his Elite XC run drew in as many as 7 million viewers and his TUF run drew 6 million for the debut in 09 This season's TUF has drawn 1.2 million viewers. That too me indicates that the sport isnt growing as you wish. Maybe Fox will make a difference. But time will tell. I think they will initially draw good numbers, but the key will be in keeping them
I'm pretty sure that they had their biggest years ever in 2009 and 2010. You must have better inside information than a multibillion dollar entertainment conglomerate like Fox, which signed a multi-year, multi-million dollar broadcasting deal with the UFC in spite of their supposedly dismal PPV numbers. I hope that you make a killing in the stock market based on your insider information.
:rofl:rofl:rofl Yes, only the UFC has ridiculous nuthuggers continually trashing the other organizations whatever they do, and completely ignoring every fault in the UFC organization, and getting cringeworthy UFC logo tattoos because they're so obsessed with the brand. :hat
Growing in profile, but slowly. The next 3 years will be a good measuring stick for the fate of Mixed Martial Arts in The West.
there was a great number of our viewers watching the avengers movie, yeah good one you ****ing numpty ****ing bhop dawson outdone ufc on fox with less potential viewers, popularity not only in the US but worldwide has dropped, its too saturated imo they are bringing it along way too quick
The excuses in that article are fairly risible - Velasquez/JDS was on the same day as Pacquiao/Marquez and White (rightly) thought it helped because boxing fans don't watch the undercard. The problem was two-fold. One it was a terrible card in terms of star-power. I mean you put Diaz-Miller on a FX card you'd be happy to a do 1.2. There was no hook to get the casual fanbase in. Two from what I've heard FOX did a bad job promoting the card. That's potentially very interesting if it shows that FOX are disappointed with how UFC is doing and cutting back their emphasis on it.
Goes to show it's the fighters who are the draw as opposed to the brand all along really. Jones v Evans did good PPV numbers from what Ive read, but otherwise it's seeming ONLY the hardcore that are following the UFC week in week out Puts an interesting spin on the old ''It's only Pac & Mayweather keeping boxing alive, MMA is bigger'' argument.
I mute the sound until the fight is on, hate that 'duh duh do duh dud do'' BS music every 30 seconds and never been a fan of panellist ''ANALysis'. But otherwise it's ok, if you take away everything Fox has added to the UFC set up
This. Minus Goldberg and add Bas Rutten and Don Frye and you've got perfection. That whole panellist shite makes it like the PGA open. It's freaking MMA man.
