    A strap?

He beat the ****ing man at 147 to become the man.

Shane is a ****ing freak in the best way possible!

Margo wasn't the man, sorry. Shane probably isn't lineal at welter either. It's a pretty tough sell to say he was #2 in the division, and Margarito clearly wasn't #2 when he beat Cotto to begin with.

Williams., who beat Margarito head to head That's why no Ring belt was given when that fight happened.

He was still a welter when the Cotto-Margarito fight happened. The fight happened 7/27 and the Kolle fight happened 9/5.

You can make an argument that Williams had just as much of a right to "the man" as Tony...Williams was fighting above 147 because he couldn't get any fights at 147...He is now calling to fight Mosley...Mosley and Williams share that title as long as williams camp is claiming he can make 147 still..there isn't any proof to suggest that he couldn't make it though....Tony was overrated and has been for a long time!

At the time of the Cotto-Margo fight, Williams was #2.
At the time of the Margo-Mosley fight, Cotto was #2.

That's all there is to it. Neither one was #1 versus #2, henceforth no lineage established.

On the Ring title, the only times I can remember them giving the title on a #1 versus #3 fight was when #3 had already beaten #2, or when political circumstances meant it was very unlikely that a fight between #1 and #2 would ever happen (i.e. a belt hijack). Heck, they gave Roy Jones the Ring belt on a #1 versus #3 fight (when Dariusz Michalczewski was ALREADY lineal champ) and it created a mess that persists to this day.
