Lomas father.... Mr Lomackenko is not often talked about and has certainly not received the accolades he deserves. The figures I am about to mention might be a little askew but from what I know Vasyl started boxing at the age of 5. At the age of 9 papa Chenko told him to stop boxing and start dancing. Some people say it was ballet style but I think it was more like that difficult cossack style. Whichever it was it possibly turned out to be the best thing a trainer has done for a fighter because it taught Loma how to use his feet which results in Loma having the best footwork in the history of boxing. His footwork is his most important tool because it enables all his other fantastic skills to flow from it. So at the age of 13 papa said that now you have learned how to use your feet you can go back to boxing. He then steered him through the corrupt world of ametur boxing to become the best ametur ever with a ridiculous 1 loss in 397 fights. His training methods are unique, state of the art and previously unknown. Boxers are gifted with boxing iq but papa trains it. Vasyl was blessed with a certain amount of iq but has also had more iq trained into him with papas methods. Papa Chenko training his son to be recognised by most as the current p4p #1 and heading for boxing immortality and the way in which he has done it must be acknowledged.

He is obviously a great trainer, also works with usyk.

Great actually professional and amateur coach in general but obviously a gifted youth coach and can nurture talent

After the LomaRigo fight Vasiliy said that it was like an Xbox game: he was a game character and his father — the player.
Anatoly "Papachenko" is a quiet guy but he is a huge and inseparable part of Loma's success.

Jesus wept. I like Loma but you Lomasexuals are something else.

We're already saying he has the 'best footwork of all time'? Get a hold of yourself man.

he's probably focusing on the flashiness of it. for example, i think its some of the best footwork i've SEEN in terms of the aesthetic of it, it looks amazing. however, i'm well aware there are hundreds of fighters from the past who used more subtlety in their footwork to get them in and/or out of position, and in some ways, i view that as better

Anatoly coaches the Ukraine men's Olympic boxing team also.

If you watch Vasyl's early amateur fights, going back to his loss against Albert Semilov in the finals of the 2007 World Championships, you'll see that his early style looked a lot like Mike Tyson's actually. The footwork and bob and weave is very similar. Of course, his style has changed since then, but the influence of the emphasis on footwork has remained.

Precise Puncher does a very good video about this on YouTube.

Here's a video of a former fighter out of Catskill showing peekaboo style footwork drills.

So let's acknowledge the possible early influence of Cus D'Amato, who himself created several world champions from scratch, including Tyson and Patterson.

And let's not forget that Eduardo Garcia made three world champions from scratch: his two sons plus Vargas.

I believe he is a very good boxing analyst. Salido fight apart (many actually criticized Anatoly and told Loma needed to find a pro trainer), he always gives specific and relevant instructions in the corner. There was a huge difference between how Loma Sr. explained what exactly his son needed to do with Rigo ducking between the rounds, and Pedro Diaz just saying something like "You have to take risk, let your hands go", which basically implied that he had no idea what to do with Lomachenko.

Clearly Lomachenko's camp did a lot to pick Rigo apart before the fight started and while many claimed that the Cuban had the best boxing IQ in the game, he was lack of ideas in the ring and to me it seemed like that was the main reason he quit.

The way he brought up and organized Lomachenko's training process, still to be called the best trainer in the world, I think you have to work with more than one fighter.

You're giving Joe far too much credit.

He was watching that fight thinking "Why doesn't Rigo put both of his gloves up high in front of face and just keep trying to walk forward? That's clearly how to win this and any other conceivable bout."
