Is Muhammad Ali Too Easy of a Target

He definitely put his neck out on the chopping block more than any athlete before and perhaps since.

It's just a matter of high exposure. Both good and bad attention come with it.

Ali was spammin' before spam was spam.

 

He believed in yelling and screaming as a marketing ploy, he said so himself. And acknowledged that it enabled him to move up fast.
He was incredibly gifted at it.

He also acknowledged early on that he wasn't clever or smart, the army didn't even want him at first until the war policy escalated, they said he was too dumb.

But no one's completely dumb, and Ali had his own type of genius.
Still, even the smartest guys are going to say a lot of stupid **** if their policy is to keep yapping on all the time.
I know this from experience.

 

Ali was a gifted boxer, and this was proved by his boxing career and his wins over Frazier, Foreman etc.
He was also a great promoter who made boxing popular, not to mention his decision not to join the army.

Boxing needed somebody who would change it for the better and Ali was there to do it. Can anybody think of anybody else who would be able to achieve was Ali did?

Ali was very quick witted, book smarts not so much

 

With his lack of education it isn't really surprising him failing that test (to begin with). He was/is not far from illiterate.

 

Fair thread and i think it worth considering duce. You're right: he was, is and will always be under a microscope. as boxingmemories said, a change was needed and he provided it.

thinking of it like this: if there were mircophones and cameras following ME every time i was in public, people would have a lot worse things to say about me than they say about ali

 

he's not been targeted enough in my opinion for his treatment of frazier

Someone whose life was being documented on a daily basis during his most popular years are gonna show fault.


However what makes it inconvenient to criticize Ali, is knowing his mistakes only went to a certain extreme.



It's easy to find fault in Ali if your insecure. Because you can nitpick the life of the most popular celebrity in American history, and say "AHA! Im not such a depressed recluse! Because the man they all praise also had faults! I can sleep another night!"

 

Ali made himself into a Global icon and problary most recognized person in world, none athlete will ever achieve more, only athlete i give a shot is MJ with his air jordan brand.
