No, he is not near ATG and I don't think deserves to be in the Hall of Fame. No way.. He was a solid contender and a tough guy with a tough style and southpaw. Should Roldan be in the hall of fame?
I not only dont think he is an ATG ,I dont think he was a great. I believe I am right in saying Hamsho only beat 4 top ten Ring ranked middleweight contenders, Scypion Parker Watts Minter
I was referring to this bit. Well if fighters like Zale ,Graziano or Carter considered ATG's Hamsho should also be included. Of the three only Zale qualifies as a great imo
The Hall of Fame means something, but it is a voted on thing. But many of the belts today are meaningless also. I agree. They were both contenders. A fight between them would have been brutal.
I would not go that far. He was a tough brawler and a spoiler, beat a few decent ones, but still a step down from guys like Nunn and Kalambay.
I'd agree he is a step down in talent, against many middleweights he would be ,but he compensated with heart, strength and durability a B level Gene Fullmer,if you will.
Not an ATG, or even a "modern great", to coin a phrase. A very good contender unlucky to be around & in his prime when the definitely ATG Hagler was undisputed champion. Against a lesser champion or in an era of split titles, he would likely be good enough to be a titlist. For example, put him in Vito's place against Corro, he likely becomes the Middleweight Champion of the World. Timing is everything...
Some of the last 50 years Hamsho isn't beating include, imo. Griffith Tiger Giardello Kalambay Hopkins Jackson McClellan Pavlik Taylor Martinez Toney Benvenuti Monzon Valdez Nunn Martinez Golovkin Alvarez Jones Jnr He would have a shot at picking up a strap against Pender Downes
