Is Nathan Cleverley the funniest thing in British boxing?

I'm no fan of Hearn either so I've no intention of turning this into a Hearn-Rabbit debate.
And are you seriously suggesting Froch ducked Clev to fight Mack?

 

The best thing for boxing fans to do is never mention Cleverly, never start thread about Cleverly and never watch any of his fights

Basically deny his existence until some interesting fights come up

 

It's been bloody disappointing how Cleverly has progressed since smashing Danny McIntosh up and down the ring then making Karo Murat quit he has looked so mediocre since those fights and the quality of opponents he has fought and been mentioned since Murat (not including Bellew & Brahmer) has been awful.

It's been quite shocking how much Cleverly has regressed over last few years I do wonder If his heart is really in boxing anymore.

 

Cleverly doesn't strike you as the next Floyd Mayweather but given how weak his division is you'd expect a unification with Shumenov or Cloud.

I don't think 'most people' see it as a duck, certainly not from Froch anyway. Hearn just won't allow Froch to fight on BN (and vice versa). This fight should be a lot easier to make than Haye-Chisora...

True but you don't hear a lot of criticism of the other title holders for not chasing unifications!

 

Indeed, that just makes matters worse.
It isn't like there's much out there, and the top guys aren't even that good. And still he scrapes the bottom of the barrel in a patheticly weak division.

 

Problem with Cleverly is that he is unproven at world level and his best win is a thin (but correct imo) decision against Bellew. He isn't a ticket seller and FW doesn't have the confidence in him to win against any of the big names in the division so he doesn't want to cash out on him just yet. He can't afford to lose another "world champion" as he only has Burns who himself is going to have to step it up in 2013 if he is to retain anY credibility and it's too much risk for him to end up with no "world champions" in his stable that has to support an entire TV channel.

There aren't enough of Murat type opponents out there for Cleverly to take on, good fighters that will bolster his reputation but not pose too much of a risk/threat. This would be a great time to fight Hopkins, he's pushing 50, coming off a loss and is a huge name in the sport. While he may have had the skills to test Cleverly at one stage I think his speed, timing and strength have slipped slightly and he would probably struggle to keep up with a high punch output opponent like Cleverly. Other than him if Clev isn't going to unify then he should fight Brahmer as soon as possible in 2013, then at least he can say he defeated the man that held the belt.

Froch has fought literally every top Super-Middleweight in the world and Cleverly has fought Latvian goat farmers.

I would hope that Froch has earnt enough respect to have his word taken over that of Nathan Cleverly's! There is literally nothing that anybody could say that could make me believe that Froch has ducked Nathan Cleverly and a £1million payday in the process.

 

Latvian Goat farmers but come on mate you gotta agree the Super Six came along in perfect time for Froch because if we are being honest here he was fighting shot to **** Robin Reids and Polish firemen when he was 31 years old . Clev fought Bellew in a C racker aged just 24 . sure i doubt F rank offered that much for a fight with Cleve either but Nath is taking a beating on these boards unfairly imo , the lad is still learning aged 25 .

 

Froch started his career late and from day one stated his intentions to do things the 'old fashioned way' and work himself into a mandatory position for the WBC belt. He did this, beat the undefeated Pascal and then went to the former Undisputed Middleweight Champion's backyard in his first defence, BEFORE the Super 6 was even mentioned.

Cleverly has a world title and he's only ever even fought two European level opponents, despite making multiple world title defences. The man is an absolute joke, and it's offensive to an iron-chinned hero like Carl Froch to even mention them in the same breath.

Bottom line - if you have a world title, fight world level opponents or GTFO. I have no problem with young fighters learning their trade, but if they want to be called a world champion then they have to step up. Can't have it both ways. Canelo is the same. **** or get off the toilet.

 

I agree but you or i ain't Nathan Cleverly are we ? Probably Clev wants to get a few quid in the bank fighting clowns first before he as to step up it's not like he's like Froch and is pushed for time .

 

If that's his decision he'll have to live with the inevitable criticsm that comes his way.

 

I wouldn't mind as much if he just came out and spoke the truth rather than trying to kid boxing fans.

All this "we made an XYZ an offer but he didn't want to know" bull**** should be shortly followed by "because it was a ridiculously poor offer that wasn't meant to be accepted anyway".

 

Of course he does but i think the majority of you are writing the lad off far too quickly, but that's the trouble with what this board has become in recent years ie too many clowns too quick to jump on the over over crowded bandwagon of yes men haters, i might be wrong about Clev but at least i have the bollocks to stay off the wagon and speak up for the lad until his career has reached the stage where it's proven ain't going anywhere .
