What's wrong with Nick Cannon? He's not a rapper. If ABC can use him for New Year's Celebration events, then surely Boxing can use him. There will be a day when Michael Buffer isn't around anymore to keep doing what he does. Open up to change sometime. So many people can't wait for Top Rank after Bob Arum so relax.....Nick Cannon can surely do the job he's getting hired for.
If Nick Cannon is a fan of boxing why not? Why not have Tobey Keith, Mickey Rourke, Mark Wahlberg, Vinnie Paz pr Rah the rugged man guys who love boxing provide celeb commentary?
They need to match (and exceed) whatever MLB Network is paying Brian Kenny. Boxing people calling the action, with the passion and flair to lend the event atmosphere - that is what is good for boxing. :good
Well there's people like that with anything. I was watching the Marlins/Dodgers game yesterday and someone walked into the room and saw someone hit the ball into the rightfield corner and thought it was an automatic triple since it went to the rightfield corner.....I thought the guy was joking around but he was serious. He thought leftfield corner is automatic double and rightfield corner was automatic triple. We know there's fans of boxing that truly don't know boxing very well, at least the whole principle of boxing, strategies, etc, but they watch it and have their favorites. We've seen Nick Cannon before at boxing matches. I remember even seeing him at the Berto/Quintana fight and you know that wasn't too packed. Now if they started putting someone like Oprah or Rachel Ray on, then you know they're just trying to broaden the audience, but I have to believe that Nick Cannon really is a fan of boxing.
Of course not the big pay per view boxing cards. But what would there be anything wrong with say George Lopez guest announcing on a latin dominated card or Mickey Rourke talking about his time training under roach on a less heralded undercard? Im not talking about random celebs. But guys who know the craft as any common fan.
Did it in the old days though. Nothing's new. Redd Foxx was on when Ali fought Wepner, Flip Wilson was there when Ali fought Fraizer in the third fight. You can see Jim Brown before the Foreman fight. Tryin something different for the fans, I guess. But, it's also ok to leave well enough alone. Every little thing about boxing ain't broke...
Until I get my dream announcing team of IB, Leon and Garfield, with Bama doing the scoring and the chincheckers doing the pre and post fight questions, I am open for anything given Merchants decline and Lampleys shilling.
Mickey Rourke didn't just train at it, he was an actual pro boxer. So he would be fine. Or anyone, regardless of celebrity status, if they're genuinely a diehard longtime fan and not just seeing it as another opportunity to get their mug on TV. So, no Kardashians. Although it would be funny watching Jim Lampley drool over their tits.
