I didn't really know what a Jack Massey was until this announcement. He appears to be a pretty solid British Cruiser. But is solid, British and Cruiser enough to eek out a victory against flawed, at times excruciatingly underwhelming, but still relevant heavyweight Joseph Parker? Keys to victory for Jack? I really don't know. I really don't know. All I know is he needs to be really uber talented to pop and move away from the 6"4 seasoned pro, and eek out a win on the back of some nice boxing. Or he's gotta be tough as nails, get in close, and implement whatever game plan they've dreamed up to a T against Parker who's got a very solid chin. I don't know how that plays out. I doubt Massey is Chisora and can back up Parker using brute strength and immense pressure. I don't know how this fight plays out. But I think Massey shows something for a few rounds, maybe some nice moments before the dream ends and Parker catches up with him in the 10th and puts Massey's flame out. Sorry, Jack.
I'm picking him in the upset. His loss against Riakporhe is incredibly controversial. As was the knockdown, by all rights he should've won it 116-112 or 115-113. He handled Pesjar far easier than Kudryashov, who went the distance with him. And he blasted Laggoune out in 3, stopping him for the first time in his career. Yeah, the stoppage wasn't great, but the writing was on the wall. Overall he's decent, applies solid pressure, has an excellent beard, is a fairly big dude, he's 6'2, and didn't look small against Riakporhe, who's 6'5. So I think he'll fill out well at Cruiserweight. Parker is only 6'4 himself. So I think there's a chance if the Joyce and matches with Chisora took too much out of him, he may be able to outwork Parker. It's not like Parker is a monster puncher, he tried with all his might to KO Fa, and he barely buckled him, and Fa's chin is quite fragile. So if Massey can take the power or Richard, which is probably more devastating, he can certainly take Parker's.
Yeah, you never know but I suspect Parker has enough left to peck it out. I'm not sure how relevant he is any more though. Parker is a gatekeeper and the last time he beat a fighter that really matters was 2016 or 2017 depending on where you stand on Hughie Fury. 2016 for me. That's seven years.
Massey shouldn't win, he's not as good as Parker but... He held his own with Riakporhe who hits harder than Parker. There's no pressure on Massey. How much does Parker still want it. As Massey is 6/1 fight winner, that looks a value bet and he might win a close decision. Deffo worth a punt!
A sad matchup considering the small number of good fights, Parker gave up after losing to Joyce, if he had any heart he would have fought better fighters like Hrgovic or Zhang...
Parker gave up after losing to AJ and Whyte back to back. He hasn’t been inspired since and his performances since those fights prove it..
Yeah I saw you're guys' comments in the RBR just now. Seems like it could be an interesting scrap at the very least.
Yeah I'm also of the opinion that he has probably enough to beat a solid Cruiserweight. If he does go down to Massey you'd think it's pretty much curtains for Parker save for some gatekeeper duties and interesting teir 2 craps. Parker vs Huni, Browne, Whyte 2, Mckean, Ahio, I'd take
