You guys from down under certainly know the fight game, glad you actually watch fights instead of looking up wikipedia :rofl
Oh absolutely. Those are the only two iv seen at their peak that were truly athletes who could literally do it all and impose their will. Both the Fight Professor and Bas gave excellent break downs of both fighters and said the same thing.
I think Jones is getting there, but only GSP & Fedor could win both on the feet and the ground(Anderson has had his moments) True evolution of MMA those two
Nope don't see it in Jones. All i see in Jones is a guy with immense physical advantages at a weight that his able to exploit very well. He's most certainly a prototype but i don't hold him in the same regard as Fedor or GSP who fought on level playing fields and literally tore through their competition with an unrivalled brutality and efficiency. Like you said it didn't matter whether you were standing or on the mat whatever happened both guys were taking a limb home.
I think you are selling Jones slightly short there Scurla (agree compared too GSP and Fedor though) Struve has a greater reach knowledge than anyone at HW, still his stand up is poor. You still have to have the talent to make the most of you physical gifts, otherwise Bob Sapp would be unbeaten ;-)
Not really. When Jones can put on a dominant striking display akin to Fedor or GSP against a an opponent that is a true 50/50 test il sit up and take note. Jones is good. But not even close to great yet.
I woud have to disagree. He is definitely close to great, if not there already. His resume really speaks for itself. He has beaten four former champions back to back; three of them in one year. A year I would argue is the best any fighter has ever had this sport. He will be facing another former champion and top 5 ATG next, and the odds are pretty heavily in his favor to win that one as well. Unless you believe that most of his success is owed to his physical attributes, which I would disagree with, I don't see how he isn't already great. The greatest LHW in the sports short history, I would say.
No doubt Jones has holes in his striking which are made up up his reach knowledge, but he won every fight clearly none the less Well find out how good he is on his feat once he eats a H-Bomb. No matter how good you are, everyone Hendo fights has had to dine out on a right hand from hell
Nope. Not even close. That honour remains Wands or Liddell's. 2 of those former champs are waaay past their best. Good wins over name opponents Evans and Machida for sure. But certainly not the wins to elevate him to the GOAT of 205.
Stoo I think you inhaled some bad bunch of flowers. This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected
Not even close? That's a bit much, no? I'd say he is very close. In fact, I said that he is. And Shogun may have been past his prime, but he was still champion, and had arguably beaten Machida twice before their match, yet you give Jones more credit for his Machida win?
Look at the depth of Wand and Liddells resumes and the length of their reigns. I think you're just getting caught up in the hype and forgetting how good both those fighters were in their respective primes. And whether Shogun was champion is academic. The same way Brocks win over Couture was academic. Personally i view those wins as good wins over name opponents nothing more or less. They're certainly not sufficient enough for him to surpass either Chuck or Wand. And for the record i'm not giving Jones more kudos for beating Machida. Shoguns win over Machida is obviously the better of the two as Shogun has positively seen better days. And when the odds were stacked against him he handled Machida in a manner that had never been seen before.
