And a style to trouble Holmes, apparently.

And while Quarry, Ellis, Bonavena, Bugner were all decent to good contenders, they were nothing very special. Bugner lost to every major guy he faced and Bonavena lost to an ancient Patterson. Ellis was the best of that bunch, I'd say, and the gift decision he got against Floyd is probably his best win.

I agree that Frazier's wins are somewhat better, but I don't feel people are being objective when they make them miles apart.

I'm not sure if Mendoza has an agenda or not (probably something against Ali in that case), but he does have a point.

    Mendoza has something against
Johnson,Louis,Ali, Frazier, look up his posts. His heroes are Jeffries ,Wlad ,and Vitali.:think

NB Holmes was carrying an arm injury against Norton.

Here's the "where their opponents were ranked at the time of fight (by Ring)" breakdown. If the opponent isn't listed, they weren't ranked by Ring going into the fight -

    Frazier -

    Oscar Bonavena - 9
    George Chuvalo - 4
    Buster Mathis - 10
    Manuel Ramos - 4
    Oscar Bonavena - 3
    Jerry Quarry - 3
    Jimmy Ellis - 3
    Bob Foster - LHC
    Muhammad Ali - 1
    George Foreman - 2
    Joe Bugner - 10
    Muhammad Ali - 1
    Jerry Quarry - 3
    Muhammad Ali - Champ
    George Foreman - 2

    Ken Norton

    Muhammad Ali - 1
    Muhammad Ali - 3
    George Foreman - Champ
    Boone Kirkman - 10
    Jerry Quarry - 5
    Muhammad Ali - Champ
    Duane Bobick - 5
    Jimmy Young - 1
    Larry Holmes - 3
    Randall Cobb - 13
    Gerry ****ey - 2

And you can make a strong arhument that Norton won only four of the fights you listed whereas at worst Frazier won 11 of his.

Norton's win and efforts vs Ali don't put his resume above Ellis?

Norton got gypped out of a resume and legacy in two of three Ali fights. If he'd have gotten one of those decisions --as he deserved-- we'd be discussing him in a totally different light. The man got screwed.

    Mendoza is wrong.
But certain people here are trying a little too hard to discredit Ken Norton.

klompton conspicuously hugging on Jerry Quarry's nuts in the process, as usual.

I'll say that Joe was a better athlete but Ken was the more educated boxer of the two.

But resume wise Ken has nothing for Joe

Yes, I'd rate him above Ellis when it comes to separating them. But they are close, and in the 'same tier', solidly in the 2nd tier of that era.
