Yeah, i think so. First top tier WW in the game he fought he struggled. Porter and Brook. We need another sample. Let him fight Danny Garcia. We will get a clearer picture..
We've gotten so used to Floyd and Pacquiao being far above the rest of the division that we call Spence overrated when he doesn't dominate top fighters. Floyd and Pacquiao wouldn't lose a round to Porter or Brook in their primes.
Because he was damaged. GGG ruined his career. But even then, take a look at the Brook fight, the first 7 rounds before the eye injury. Pretty much everybody's cards were either 4-3 to Brook or 5-2, even 6-1 in some very small cases. People don't want to face the facts. Non-drained Brook, the one pre-GGG sweeps Spence aside. Brook is everything you want from a welter. He's clever, he's got power and weight on his side, his chin is pretty good..but unlike Spence, his footwork is much better and he is able to box and move..he isn't a one trick pony. Brook would have been the welterweight king had he not made the mistake of facing GGG. It ruined his weight and his eyes, and it's a mistake he'll regret for the rest of his life.
Spence IS overrated, but you are right in pointing out that Porter is underrated too. The aura of invincibility surrounding Spence for years and years surely was taken down a notch after last weekend. I've said it countless times before, prior to that bout, the only real tested WW in the division is Pacquiao. We were judging the others based on eye test performances and hypothetical matchup results. Next to him in actual merits will be Thurman. Now after defeating Porter, then Spence.
Well... I disagree on all accounts.. Spence broke Brook down i Sheffield little by little.. Keep on hating
Have to say I fell for the myth that he's a destroyer and the bogeyman of the division, maybe Spence would eventually beat the 40 yr old Manny but I also think on the process Manny would land at will albeit in a losing cause.
Be honest Spence fanboys.. Porter is basically a WW Jean Pascal & he got a SD against him at the peak of his powers.. & if the cheating low blows hadn't have slowed Porter down a bit he may have even lost lol
Spence is head of the North American Boxing Establishment in terms of notoriety, so he is whatever they say he is. He doesn't have to be whatever reality or the facts say he is, because he is immune to the culturally bias 'facts'. As long as the North American Boxing Establishment has him as the #1 p4p fighter in the world, then by god that is what the citizens of North America better believe he is, or leftist hell hath fury on them for thinking for themselves And, using facts or thinking for yourself is prohibited when inside the walls of the North American Boxing Establishment.
Good fighter, but overrated - only because some people claim he's some Mayweather successor, he's clearly nowhere near in the same league, I guess it'e the sparring rumours that sparked this but whatever. His size helps him more than people care to admit as well, take the last Porter fight, he didn't outdo him skillwise really, he may be more skilled but there's not a huge disparity between the two. He really just beat him because he had longer arms and was physically bigger, I personally see him struggling at 154 when he eventually has to move up.
IMO He isn't over rated anymore than the rest of the ATG's who were questioned during their careers, only to be exalted post career.
