Haven't seen much of this guy, but his name occasionally pops up as a rising prospect.. Not sure what to think of him frankly... At nearly 30 years of age, he has fought only 16 times, beating mostly average opposition and has shown up to his fights weighing as much as 270 lbs.... Here he is against Monte Barret.. He looks a tad crude to me [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CeGAHTtN9VY[/ame]
No doubt, he needs to lose 40 pounds. Has power, but, lacks mobility. Against a top heavyweight, he will struggle to keep up with them.
The guy is immensely strong. The reason he has so few fights I think is because he has a massive amateur background. He beat David Haye in the amateurs, as well as amateur heavyweight legend Felix Savon. The guy has THREE world amateur championship gold medals, two for heavyweight and one for super heavyweight and an Olympic gold medal for heavyweight. He should be moving up quick. I hope he fights a bigger challenge soon. Maybe he'll be motivated to get in shape for it if he does.
Other than haye, i only see solis and bostoyev(they need a few more fights tho) as the guys who can beat the klits
Amateurs means nothing, this is the Pros. There are lots of Amateurs who failed as Pros. I would like to see Solis stepping it up and fight a top ten contender such as Tony Thompson, then we can talk again.
Why because he has only fought nobodies?Come on, this is ridicloulous, we already saw what the Klits do to guys wh have onl fought nobodies, (Kevin johnson, Arreola). Haye and Povetkin are doing the right thing, they are tryiing to pick up more experience before fighting the Klits.
1. I didn't say amateur success translated to pro success. Did I? 2. Amateurs don't mean "nothing" as numerous times it's been shown that those with a good amateur background are simply better schooled and have more to fall back on in the ring. In other words, just because amateur success doesn't necessarily translate, does not mean that it isn't valuable or an indicator of how good a pure athletic potential someone has. HW Champs with amateur backgrounds distinguished by Olympic gold medals (Linear Champs by Ring's appointing in green): This content is protected Ray Mercer, This content is protected ...Doesn't necessarily translate does not mean insignificant...sorry. Two of the most promising prospects in the HW division, undefeated Povetkin and Solis...both Olympic gold medalists.
It could be a an indication, I agree. However, more an indication would be a fight between Solis and a Top Ten contender such as Tony Thompson. For the moment, Solis just seems to be content to secure his high ratings by the ABC bodies without taking risky fights.
Couldn't agree more, really. I'd like to see him in with Thompson or the winner of Arreola/Adamek, of course.
He is very talented and has very good power but he needs to lose weight and start to take some challenges otherwise his career will be a failure. He is being moved up the ranks cautiously and at a snail's pace due to his laziness and gluttony. He could give a tough fight to some of the better HW's like Povetkin, Haye, and Chagaev but Wlad Klitschko would absolutely demolish this guy.
From what I have seen I think he has the skills and abilitys. However I think his weight is going to catch up to him.
Solis has a brilliant amateur background but hasn't transferred the potential into points so far. I think he is slowly eating away at his career when he really needs to start maing inroads into the division.
