When Crawford departed 135 he waltzed right into a WBO world title shot at 140 just five months later in his very next fight When he departed 140 he waltzed into a WBO world title fight at 147 in his very next fight 10 months later Waltzed into two world title fights on his home soil in the space of 15 months combined without having a single fight in either division Nobody, and I do mean not a single soul, had the slightest problem with him invoking the WBO's own rule twice but when Usyk, who has been the WBO mandatory for close to two years and has had a brace of fights at the new weight compared to Crawford's zero, wants to do it once suddenly all the cockroaches come scurrying from under the floorboards and skirting decrying how he doesn't deserve his shot and shouldn't be allowed to invoke the WBO's own rule even though you can't name another fighter more deserving of an immediate title shot at the new weight after moving up a division, given how he cleaned out the division below winning all his world titles, defending them and unifying them in his opponent's backyards sans once when he defended on neutral soil against Mchunu. And he requested for his shot at AJ to be in AJ's backyard too where everything would be against him. Unheard of, or at least in this day and age of have gloves won't travel 'warriors.'
Can someone please explain to me why Usyk deserves 93% of the cut? I understand him getting a bigger cut because he does have a bigger following of fans and is the bigger name, but I don't see why he's being a **** to Joyce and telling him he needs to "learn his place" and accept a pathetic 7%. Joyce is nearly at retiring age, he wants to earn a pension. This may be the biggest fight he'll ever get. I think Joyce should be getting at least 25% here if not more. If you're in a title eliminator you deserve more respect.
This is 100% right, forget all this childish nonsense about whether he's got the "balls" to fight, etc. Joyce isn't, putting it mildly, Joe Louis reincarnated, but he's fairly decent, and therefore a risk, as Daniel Dubois discovered to his cost. Usyk is 34 years old, slowing down a bit, still unbeaten, for him now the priority is either $$$ title fight or else a tune-up against the lowest grade tomato can he can possibly get away with whilst retaining credibility. Why take a risk on anything else? I suppose the only possible exception would be if he were somehow to be offered megabucks for a non-title fight, but I can't really see where that'd come from. Maybe headlining some dodgy bill in the Middle East? An exhibition with [Mike] Tyson? Barring something like that it's, as I said, title fight or patsies only.
Tyson vs Usyk exib definitely might had been sold out better than A.J vs Pulev or Usyk vs Joyce. Over the hill if to be realistic and harsh. Yeah. At all, he had proven everything in amateur ranks and semi pro tournament, then in pro ranks. Usyk's resume is amazing if compare with a lot of boxers more appreciated in forums. He wasn't old uncles beater and fought prime opponents on foreign soil, also he happened in era and division with a lot really legit fighters who were willing to fight on foreign soil, brave and not old. Usyk had worked very dangerous and hard road to his legacy. Now he probably should school Al, eddie and wbo. This will be more worth for his legacy than any next fight in the ring. eddie loves stuff like whyte vs pov, pick up old uncle over the hill, call fight as eliminator and put cherry picked old uncle on rematch clauses. All these geriatric fights for eddie kids are very boring and annoying. Enough to be king, eddie.
Joyce is a real live contender in this fight if it happens. I think Usyk has deteriorated since the WBS and Joyce has improved. Usyk didn't look great against Witherspoon or Chisora. He's in decline. I know that Joyce will be absolutely up for this. I think we'll see the best Joyce fight to date. It's a disgrace if he only gets offered 7% of the purse. I'm starting to wonder if Usyk and his team really fancy the fight to honest. Maybe they're now thinking it's not the "given" fight they first estimated. If the fight gets made I'll be having a punt on Joyce.
In WBS he was in prime, also in WBSS till last fights, after Briedis fight had a bit *** and still was not bad vs Gassiev. After this, decline, yeah. V.s Whiterspoon he looked very slow, a little bit improved vs Chisora. Usyk already does have very impressive amateur superstar's legacy and pro boxer's resume. Now looks that he need only some extra $$$$$$$ and why not to school eddie and prove that he isn't eddie toy, eddie needs lesson. Ofc, cos Usyk did not needed to fight in some eliminator according to WBO rules he should had been treated like they had treated Crawford. Better I had wished to see fight Joyce vs Eddie.
This is just negotiating tactics. Usyk has never ducked anyone. He has been very accommodating and is the one guy in boxing who has won more fights in his opponents backyard (the opposite of Ward and Crawford) and is willing to fight anyone. He’s probably a little pissed he is not fighting AJ or Fury for big money and by all accounts should have been given that opportunity. Crawford moved up to WW after unifying 140 and fought for a title immediately, as is the custom. Hopefully Usyk got step aside money for his flexibility. He’s definitely getting older but I can’t tell if he’s slipping or just adjusting to fighting much bigger guys. This Joyce fight will take place and will be interesting. We will see if the Usyk of old is still alive or if he is starting to lose his battle with Father Time. Any loss of mobility or skill will impact a guy like Usyk more than Fury or AJ because he needs his speed and mobility to beat bigger guys as he is giving up so much strength and size. Time will tell.
Actually Usyk was not one alone brave lad in CW division. They had a lot of brave lads. 1. Glowacki had get his WBO World Title in U.S via soppage win vs Huck. 2. He didn't had opted to beat up some bum in his hometown but opted to do title defense fight in U.K. 3. Glowacki was after 2 best fights in his life, undefeated current legit WBO World CW Champion. 4. And he most likely was capable enough fast schedule voluntary title defense vs some enough highly ranked bum. Common thing in boxing. He opted to fight vs prime Usyk. Fight vs 30.y.o undefeated Glowacki in his real prime after his 2 best career fights. In Poland. Yeah, in Poland, motivated by crowd in hall, " hungry " and willing to fight. & This fight was Usyk's pro career cornerstone for first real step up.
Then there was Hunter. Usyk fought 28 y.o undefeated Hunter in U.S, this too was high risk. Despite Hunter lost this one, he was more well known in europe after this and everyone with brains does knows, that he might had picked up some bums to beat up easily instead of stepping up to fight vs Usyk. Hunter opted to take chance and props for him for courage. Instead of option to rack up till 20-0-0 record vs bums etc alike casual, very common stuff in pro boxing.
Huck. Usually fought in Germany and was A side kid. He still had a lot balls: no one ever could force him to fight vs 32 y.o Oly Champ in Povetkin cos Huck had 0 problems to trim down to CW limit and actually is a bit lighter than Povetkin, like 209 lbs vs 224-225 dude. Huck looks that had a lot of connections and high ranking places to get title fight after he failed vs Glowacki to do WBO World Title defense in U.S. He get fight for WBC World title and to do this in Germany, in his promotion. Unlike Bellew, Huck had more options to avoid prime Briedis without long talks about this but he did not had picked this option. He had in the ring prime Briedis and proved that he does have more balls than Bellew. Yeah, he had lost last 2 his title fights already and still opted to fight vs Usyk for World Title. Huck was motivated and he is only few months older than Briedis. Usyk fought Huck in Germany.
Aye there's probably 10x as much money in a Joshua fight though. A duck is a duck regardless if the reason is financial or not!
Do you think it is coincidence that AJ and Fury negotiate a multi fight deal now, as soon as Usyk becomes the mandatory? Of course they know he is a threat so they are cashing out instead of taking risk. Boxing politics, not Usyk scared to fight Joyce. I suspect some of the posting here stems from boxing politicians motivated to maintain their narrative
