He’s both underrated and overhyped at the same time. I think he really was or had the potential to be the boogeyman some claim him to be now, but that was well before he faced Wilder. Wilder beat an excellent boxer and formidable puncher with serious limitations, some of them due to age and others not. Cuban glass is a thing and he might well be packing it but it’s hard to tell since Hammer and Jennings aren’t big punchers and Wilder’s a colossal one. Untested? Absolutely, He has one win over a top 10 HW, But there are only 7-8 currently active guys who can even say that much.
He should be tested against Pulev or Chisora in a first fight and then against Povetkin, Whyte or Parker in next fight. But he is high risk low reward and Pulev is mandatory for a title, while Chisora doesn't like fighting southpaws. Just for the sake of boxing it would be really sad if we had to see him fighting 3rd class boxers again after this loss. His league is top 10, but people don't want to risk anything.
He wasn't considered one of Cuba's best either. He was a sucker for eating right hands in the amateurs and pros.
untested and never found out his full potential in my opinion but hey thats just my opinion dont cry and get butthurt over it guys lol
Is still a respectable name and could feature again in a marquee fight, albeit father time is against him.
There's a video of Fury saying he doesn't want to fight Ortiz because he's not worth the risk. If that's the definition of a boogeyman then idk wtf is.
"Punching bag" is a term for guys who get hit a lot and take it. Ortiz got hit once in 7 rounds and it put him down.
Yes, you can't even call him a punching bag anymore. He would be upgraded to a punching bag status if he develops a granite chin.
Grandpa Ortiz was overhyped from day one, and likely a great deal older than his stated age. He doesn't seem to have much punch resistance left, that's pretty clear.
