Dont mix popularity with greatness , as much as I liked Oscar as a fighter , the facts are that Oscar fought for the WBO titlles and old names until fighting at 147 where from that point he lost all of the big ones.

And at 34 was beaten up by a man half his size.

Hall of famer absolute . All time great afraid not.

But he will be remembered .

 

I would say HOF because he lost quite a few fights but that was late in his career.
Looking at what he achieved earlier is amazing.
One of the most successful boxers and a solid great.
ATG. Will never be forgotten.

140 WBC he beat Julio Cesar Chavez, and Miguel Angel Gonzalez...Also legit Jr. WW champion.

147 WBC he beat Pernell Whitaker, Ike Quartey, Tito Trinidad, Hector Camacho, Julio Cesar Chavez, Oba Carr, Arturo Gatti...Also Legit Welter Weight Champion.

154 WBC he moved up and beat Javier Castillejo, Yori Boy Campas, Fernando Vargas, Shane Mosley...unified the division...Legit Jr. MW champion.

He beat all the top LWs at 135 while holding the WBO strap, oh ****! It's the fighter that makes the belt, not the other way around.

Also if you think Trinidad beat him, you're a bigger moron.

Bull**** because:

Oscar won the WBC title at 140, 147, 154...He beat all the top fighters at 147, and unified at 154, at 140 he dethroned the reigning 140 champ.

At LW, when he was the Champ and held the WBO strap he beat most if not all the top LW in that time.

At 34 he was past his prime, art time boxer full time promoter, and was weight drained.

Congratulations, neither Pacquiao nor De La Hoya are all time greats.

Old names on the way up and losing big ones ,closely , but losing . I thought he clearly beat Mosley II , but some didnt.

Personally I thought he beat Trinidad, but I thought he lost to Quartey.

Do I really need to go through all of the names below 147 , because I can.

Oscar is a similar age to me and I have watched him since the Olympics , my favourite nights were his againt Vargas and Mayorga.

Oscar, though, is held to an outrageously high standard in a way that no other of his contemporaries are. That's how good he was.

 

You're too new to boxing to know anything...If the Mayorga was your favorite fight, it explains a lot...It was a good fight for Oscar, but far from his most entertaining, and/or menaingful...
