Is Oscar an ATG

I have to agree. Both Whitaker and Chavez were a bit past-prime when they fought each other, and that was '93. They fought Oscar in '96-'97, after Chavez had lost to Frankie Randall and Sweet Pea had had trouble with Wilfredo Rivera. The versions Oscar beat were nowhere near peak. Peak versions of both would beat Oscar convincingly IMO. Oscar's best wins were Quartey and Vargas.

You must be joking if you are talking about top 40 since 1900.

 

I don't know of any All Time Greats who ran like a thief during the last three rounds of the biggest fights of their career. You have to also consider Oscars flaw of slowing down late in fights. You'd have to compare Oscar against fighters who did have to go 15 rounds instaed of 12, and he wouldn't compare well in that category. Ray Leonard, Tommy Hearns , and Roberto Duran would have beat Oscars ass. Oscar falls short of ATG status.

Oscar is a Hall of Famer, NOT an ATG.

I reserve ATG status for those fighters that rank approximately in the top 125 of all time.

Oscar is a top 150 type guy, falling just short.

 

Roberto Duran coasted the last few rounds in the biggest fight of his life, the 1st Leonard fight. And he is a stone cold ATG, one of the very greatest of all-time. He was up on points, and went into cruise control, just like Oscar did. Same principle applied. :smoke

He lost most of the biggest fights of his career and IMO was fortunate to get the nod against quartey whitaker and sturm who i think all beat him.

beating chavez who was over 100 fights in and already beaten up by frankie randall isnt a great win.... DLH was favored against the faded mexican legend.
and even with the "win" if you want to give him that against whitaker...whitaker was waaaay past his prime....
