At 30 years old, is it too late for Reem to acheive greatness assuming he wins the grand prix? Most great ones put in the big leg work in thier mid twenties, peak at early thirties, and fade out at mid thirties. As athletic as Reem is, did he miss the boat? I think it is obvious he will be the one to carry the torch now that Fedor has lost as step and is getting older, but how long can a Overeem reign realistically last? This scenario is all with the assumption that he wins the grand prix.:good
If he wins the grand prix, he will have already achieved greatness, considering that accomplishment along with his K-1 achievements.
Really? I like Reem but when i think of greatness I think of must have epic fights, overcomming odds, and fighting the who's who. Let me clarify, greatness in MMA. Reem is a great fighter K1, but does he have time to establish that in mma? If Reem was 27 I'd say he could without a doubt!!!
No he's only 30 and could still fight at a high level for a couple of more years. If he can win the grand prix tournament then he will achieve greatness because of the level of competition in this tournament. fedor-barnett-werdum would all be great win for him.
I think the reem beats Werdum and Fedor and whoever he meets in the finals. I know he hasn't prooved much at HW yet because of his other interests but he is in great shape since eating his horse meat and isn't the same fighter he was a few years back at LHW. I personally think he's the favorite to win this.
if he wins the gp in combination with being k1 champ (yes its not mma but I don't care it is still related) he will already have achieved greatness imo 30 really isn't that old in mma these days also bear in mind that anderson silva made his UFC debut at the age of 31, that was really when he began his reign of greatness, although he did already had some solid wins before that the casual fans had no idea who he is, if overeem wins the gp then he will have achieved more at 30 than anderson had at 31 imo so no it is not too late imo
I have no doubt he'll win the tournament. But look at him. He's so much bigger and stronger than everyone else its almost as if he's got an unfair advantage. Fedor achieved what he achieved being undersized, not a super sized friggin monster
He might have trouble building a legacey as good as Fedor or Nogs but I'd expect Overeem to be fighting at a high level for another 3-4 years at least. He's had alot of matches but bar the neck problems in 2006 hasnt ever been injurt prone and hasnt taken that much punishment, he's been TKO/KOed but never a career changing beating ala Wanderlei/Mirko 2 or Mirko/Gonzaga.
Winning the absolutely stacked Strikeforce HW Grand Prix within a year of winning the absolutely stacked K1 HW Grand Prix would effectively put greatness in the bag.
