Is Pac beating Martinez at 154+ more significant than him beating Mayweather?

I think it definitely should be considered, especially since Mayweather isn't showing any interest in the fight.

  2. Fighting Mayeather, Pac risks getting schooled/embarassed.

Fighting Sergio, Pac risks getting KTFO'd.

    Martinez = more impressive win

No, beating Mayweather would be far & away Pac`s best accomplishment, Martinez might be bigger but he`s certainly not better than Floyd.

Both Mayweather and Pacquiao beating the other is their career defining victory.

No it wouldn't be but not by much (still very close IMO). It would be a huge accomplishment but just under beating mayweather.

I don't see it happening though. Martinez has footspeed which is something pac has never faced. He has handspeed but I do think he will be at a significant disadvantage against pac. Lastly I think he can KO manny with one punch and that's the main reason I don't think it will happen above 154. They will try to get him down under that.

Pac's already got the titles part cemented, gaining a MW title wont do much more. Beating Floyd will add a top 30 ATG on his resume...that would be huge.

I think Martinez would beat Floyd by decision.

Floyd has never in his career faced a tall slick boxer. Not only is Martinez tall and slick, he is one of the most physically gifted fighters in the game as well.

And he has a relatively significant size advantage.

Floyd is not unbeatable. He can't outbox everyone. Against Martinez, who has the longer reach and is the bigger man, Floyd who doesn't look as great as he normally does against Southpaws anyway, will have to be the aggressor at times, and I'm not sure he is comfortable doing that.

    Yep!

But beating Martinez would be pretty damn impressive, no doubt.

Definitely, especially after what happened over the weekend.

But unless it's at a weight Martinez is comfortable with in, there is no point.

mayweather already won a 154 title, and beat the divisions number one fighter at the time...so it would suffice to say that beating floyd, a five division champion, and undefeated fighter, is more of an accomplishment.

martinez notable wins- bunema, williams, cintron (unoffical), pavlik... there is no comparison, martinez is a 2 division champ, floyd is a top 50 atg...

But STRAIGHT up Martinez' opponents are better than Mayweathers.

Not PFP, but STRAIGHT UP as in Williams, Cintron, and Pavlik would probably beat every single one of Mayweather's opponents except for maybe Mosley and De La Hoya.

That's where the size comes into play. Pac will be taking on a MUCH bigger man with GREAT skills.

Like I don't think Wlad is nearly as great as people make him out to be, but if Dawson beat him for example, I would rate that higher than if he beat Hopkins, despite Hopkins being higher on the ATG list.

Not really a good comparison. Mayweather hasn't got the greatest resume at 147lbs, so if you take away that...everyone of his opponents are smaller than Cintron, Pavlik and Williams, just because they are bigger, doesn't mean they are better.

that is BS, who has cintron or williams ever beaten? the same williams who lost to quintana? the same cintron who was KO by Margo (well there is the wraps issue but still), the same pavlik who got shut out by Hopkins? Sergio has never fought a world class, elite fighter. you could make an argument for pavlik. floyd has faced elite comp- hernandez, castillo, corrales, hatton, judah (arguably), mosley
