So Martinez coming into the fight weighing in at almost a LHW bears no weight? Cmon man. I like competitive matchups and want to see Pac and everyone else up against the best, but the reality is, Martinez will be too big on fightnight. There's weight-classes for a reason in boxing. Martinez will have about a 20lb advantage along with a height and reach advantage.
Yes. As long as Pac is WITHIN the 148-154 limit, which he can do. Martinez would still out weigh him by at least 10 lbs and have a huge reach advantage (9inches) and height adv.
Well.... i for one want to see Pacquiao in a 50:50 fight after Margo, is that not what all boxing fans seek?
That 50/50 fight would be against Mayweather. Like I said, i'm all for competitive matchups, but Martinez is naturally 2-3 weightclasses above Pacquiao who'd even considered small for WW.
at least 10 lbs...?? make that at least 20 lbs. martinez weighed 170 in his last fight compared to pac's 148.
Is it realistic? I would like to think so. Both fighters have recently been champions at 154, both guys are the best active boxers in the world. Both guys are short of challenge. More than that, I would love to believe that I am in the era of a potential goat and someone who beats the likes of mab, morales, jmm, cotto, martinez, floyd, bradley is certainly that kind of fighter. Imagine if pac's last 3 fights were vs floyd, martinez and winner of bradley-khan, all in their divisions. I would have no argument about him being in the goat bracket then. As it is, it seems more likely he'll finish off by fighting berto, cotto, jmm. Still good, by any account, but no longer great.
Well, we all know Pacquiao's belt at 154 is total bull****, so I say no. Martinez is too big and should take on other middleweights as Pacquiao is unproven at anything above 147. His fight against Margarito doesn't prove a thing in my eyes.
Just because Pac experimented at 154 doesnt mean he belongs there. He made it clear after the Marg fight that he would be going back down to 147. If on fightnight there was a differnce of 5 or so lbs, I would be all for it. Truth is, Martinez would have a 20lb advantage if there were to ever fight at 154.
This is all true but i want to see Pacquiao in a challenging fight which will test his ability, barring Mayweather i doubt he will find a fight like that at 147 or even 154.
No, Pacquiao and his team knows this---he's waaay too small for SWW. Martinez on the other hand has a normal weight of 170+. So you guys want to see a 170+ lb dude at fight night killing himself to make weight at 154, versus a dude who can barely make the WW limit at fight night? Yeah, those people who want to see Pac fight Martinez are the ones who wants to see him lose. Or those who are sore butthurt at the fact that the media will always refer to Pac as an 8-division champ. He vacated that **** quickly for a reason (and a legit reason). Who knows, maybe Pac is crazy enough, he might try Martinez for a 155-156 catchweight for his belt, eek out a win (not likely at all) and you haters will be even more butthurt of Pacquiao the 9-division champ.
Let's see Pac was too small even at a catchweight of 150lbs. Martinez once said he can't make less than 156lbs and comes in fight night at around 170lbs. Martinez is 5'11" with a reach of 75" while Pac is 5'6.5" with a reach of 67". Totally fair fight.
Pac has limitations, I dont think he will be able to absorb Martinez's shots. Sergio will probably outweigh him at least 20 lbs. Maravilla is no Margarito, he is fast and he can box. I'm a Pacquiao fan but I don't wanna see this fight. Its a shame on Sergio's side the he opt to challenged Pacquiao, he should have challenged Bute or one of the Super Six guys.
Where is the option for the real answer. "Martinez has too much skill for Pac. Hasnt had consecutive bad performances. Will not agree to a weight draining catch weight.
Yeah exactly. Maybe I rate pac more than you do, I dunno, but I wanna see him prevail against the odds and martinez above 154 is the only guy I favour to beat pac right now.
