Cutting a "measly" 3 pounds(even though it was much more than that the week of) at Oscar's age is a death wish. It wasn't Oscar or Nacho's choice to come in at 145. Oscar was starving himself so much his body went into survival mode. His insides were so messed up the man couldn't even rehydrate properly. He was quote on quote "a dead man" going into the ring that night.

I still give Pacquiao credit because he did beat the bigger man, but it doesn't matter how you swing it. Floyd's win over Mosley was way more significant than Pacquiao beating Oscar.

I agree that it isn't the best...and by everyone I mean majority. I recall all the fans saying Floyd was scared of a big ww...even check post Marquez Mayweather fight.

In this instance, Shane was the next best thing after Manny. It doesn't matter because no matter who Floyd fought he would have been criticized.

Shane was the next highest rated fighter and the only fighter available that was worth the big money. Fans would not have given Floyd credit for any fighter he faced at that time, and that's clear by what was said before the fight was signed in comparison to how little credit he got after the domination of the #3 fighter in the world.

Let's be honest, saying Oscar went down 3 pounds is just a slight under statement.

DLH came down from his walk around weight, to the weight of his last bout, then dropped an extra 5 pounds.

And I agree, it was bigger...I just disagree on how much more. I'm certainly not saying the difference was negligible, just that it isn't a gap I would quantify as significant.

The blame falls directly on the shoulders of Nacho and Oscar for making that call. I would rate it higher than Ward's win over Dawson though.

Definitely, I'm not discrediting Pacquiao's victory. I'm just pointing out, it can easily be shown to be just a couple of pounds he dropped from his last bout, but in truth, it's a huge difference taking in to consideration the factors in play.

i believe the cherry picking comes from the supposed p4p number 1 taking on fighters coming off a loss or weight draining them

maybe its just me but p4p number one should take on the best there is

Cotto didn't beat Margarito at a catchweight...that is why Cotto gets more credit for his win than Pac does

see the irony here? this guy is giving floyd credit if he beats sergio at 150, but won't give credit to Pac for beating Marg at 150. even if Marg outweighed Pac by 15+ lbs.

Cotto beat Margarito at a 153 catchweight. This one pound was so unnecessary. And these 2 guys supposed to be latin warriors, right?

Yet Cotto/Margarito was indeed at a catchweight of 153. Remember? In fact, Cotto initially wanted the fight to be held at 150, even though his previous two bouts were at 154. When Margarito said no to 150, and 152...they finally settled at 153. Remind me, did Cotto get any **** for that?

i think cotto gets a pass simply because of what marg did to him.. 1 pound is a fair tradeoff for getting hit with bricks for 11 rounds

haha, classic. No he gets a pass, because he's not at the top of the sport like Manny, who gets over criticized.

The fact is Cotto wanted a catchweight at 150.

Manny offered cotto a fight at 150, and all of a sudden cotto can't make that weight anymore. :happy

Since being anounced p4p number 1 at 130 lbs. he rose to 135, won a belt. moved to 147 and took a fight where he was a 5 to 1 underdog. Then beat the best 140 in hatton, thebest 147 in clottey. Filler fights with clottey, Margo, and Mosley.
Then last 3 fights against p4p number 3 Marquez twice. And p4p number 8 in Bradley.

How is that not fighting the best.

he reached p4p number one off of the weight draining morales rematch's? then he moved up and took on david diaz?..

ill give you ODLH manny had to climb alot and Oscar had to come down to a weight he had not had a fight in 7 years at, it was a dangerous risky fight

the hatton win is a win that was good because of how dominant he was but lets not forget he was coming off a loss. especially when roach admits that mosley approached them looking to fight manny and roach declined unless mosley blatently weight drained himself because "his better then oscar"

clottey is another terrible opponent even though he was coming off a loss i can let it slide because that fight i felt could have gone either way. the margarito fight was so unneccesery considering the man had been off for a year after being found guilty of using plaster in his handwraps which basically put a giant asterisk over his entire career (which was good but not incredible)... not to mention he was coming off his first and only KO loss to mosley

overall pacquiaos resume is not just good.. its great.. his achievements are amazing but i feel he could have been so much more if he hadent been so carefully managed.

that being said everyone has blemish's on there record

i feel if he had not walked away from the floyd fight in the first negotiations and the fight went ahead and manny lost i would still hold him in higher regard then i do now
