it's not even that. cotto asked for it without the intention of draining cheato. they were the same size, so whether it was 150 or 154, it didn't matter. they had to make that weight together. cotto plays on an even playing field, yeah he gets a pass.

 So 1lb is significant at welter, but stops being so at 154. Real convenient

Did you know that 153 was not even Cotto's preference, he wanted 150 with a 160 rehydration clause

Proof right here. Clottey was a very good fighter. Even in his defeats, he showed how good he is.

How about thinking clottey didn't become a joke. But Manny put on a masterclass and made him look poor.

Manny beats a top Welter convincingly, and still gets hate

Even thought of as a cherry pick. Did Cotto also cherry pick clottey???

What was Cotto's intention for asking for 150 then? To drain himself, he prefers fighting drained? Or to go into the history books as the first champ to ask to defend at a catchweight? Against a one eyed bum no less?

twas nothing more than a part of negotiations. was only trying to be hardass for the man he hates to mess up his mind. they didn't fight at 150 now did they so no draining ever happened. cheato was 2 eyed for the most part anyway. and whatever, he had revenge, that's all he needed to be back to his best form again.

anyone who throws a fight is a joke. like i said, i really liked clottey before pac because he's a tough mofo to beat. the clottey fight only showed how weak and shot cotto was at welter. healthy cotto would've had a clear ud over clottey.

    haha, no its not.

If your the same size. why even negotiate a catchweight.

    Idiots.

Marquez tried to drain pac to 144 by your logic even though he was fighting for hs welter belt :|

He also tried to force Mayweather into a catchweight.

    Marquez is the catchweight king????

No he gets a pass too, cos we only have irrationaly hate for PAC.

Soon as you can see your opinions are spewed and the result of irrational hate, the better.

No, Cotto has always been flawed. He was wobbled by judah and had to cheat his way out. SHould have lost to clottey, wobbled and nearly stopped by average light welters. Even wobbled by malignaggi.

He's a flawed fighter. He rises up in weight and beats foreman, mayorga and a shot margarito and all of a sudden he's a superstar again.

Clottey never threw the Manny fight. Give me a break. Manny was exceptional tht night and made a very good welter look ordinary. :nut

They didn't fight at 150 cause Marg rejected it. You're saying Cotto woulda been stuck drained if Marg called his bluff?

So all he needed to get unshot was to beat up on a non top 20 ranked bum with one good eye? But only with a weight stipulation. Can you imagine how unshot he woulda been if he'd beat this sorry bum at 154, like a #1 rated champ is supposed to do?

Cotto asks for a catchweight, its because he's a hardass and its part of the negotiations.

Manny asks for one, its because he's a weightdraining cheat :nut

Why did Marquez ask for them?
    De La Hoya?
    Sugar Ray Leonard?

I'm happy if you dislike catchweights, but be consistent. Otherwise you come across as a Hater.

How about Ortiz Berto at 146? Being a CW didn't prevent it from being voted FOTY. What shocks me is, I'm finding a lot of these catchweight warriors didn't even notice this high profile bout was a CW, so weird how it slipped through the cracks. Funny enough, it's the one time Ortiz managed to beat a solid opponent in 5 tries

i like catchweights. They allow us to have fights we wouldn't normally get.

People forget Manny was considered a small light welter. But people wanted the Cotto fight. A catchweight was agreed, everyone was happy. There were no cries that Cotto would be affected by the weight before during or after the fight. It was considered a very good win.

    People here are revising history.
