He was a hell of a jabber back then, eh? I didn't notice.

Based on which fights, exactly? De La Hoya? Clottey? The fighters that remained stagnant and offered up absolutely no movement or offense?

Which is why I don't put Pacquiao on the same pedestal as many others. He's been getting by against mostly sub-par opposition, he's had real troubles with the best guys he's faced. Particularly Marquez, being as he was the best guy Pacquiao had faced at that stage of their careers.

one aspect which has improved dramatically is his ring acumen, he seems a lot smarter when fighting guys, knows exactly what to do. Its like hes fighting with Freddy Roach's brain. Def hes a way better fighter than marquez, calling those welterweights sub-par is a bit of a stretch, hindsight is always 20-20.

Hell yeah he's improved, even Roach over the last few years has noted his steady improvement, you can find many quotes on google.

And Roach is in the prime position to judge, right?

So why did he lose to Cris John and to an average Freddie Norwood and looked like a fool against derrick Gainer. You're putting too much stock in Floyd's win against JMM when in fact JMM sucks when fighting slickster.

I know. In a similar way Ray was able to make his speed work against Duran.

I can't agree with that Pea. After the third KD in round 1 of the 1st Marquez fight, Pac tried to finish him off by unleashing eight one-two's, one after the other. There's just no way he'd ever do that now. For me that's tangible evidence of genuine progression right there. He fights differently now.

One of the most noticeable things for me is he lunges a lot less now, and he doesnt go all Rambo-automatic machine gun fire. He fires in short, accurate bursts now.

Now, when he finds his opponent cornered, he doesnt jump in so recklessless and fires away. More likely to get countered by a punch he didnt see.

nowadays, he jabs, goes in, fires 3 quick combos, then gets out.

    Then he repeats it.

Pacquiao's a warrior that takes on all comers!

Except slick boxers like Shane and Floyd. They won't drain and they're too good. Just ask Freddie Roach.

Pacquiao got WAY better in between fights, and slightly more well rounded from then on. It's hard to say from their 2008 fight he's gotten 10 times better, that's a huge exaggeration, I just think he executed game plans much more efficiently. it's only been a year and a half since they last fought, so I don't think he's an entirely different fighter, but a more defensively sound and ring-savvy in his movement and punch placement. The weight and age would be too much for Marquez, I wouldn't want to see his credit taken away from him after he beat Pacquiao pretty badly twice in my opinion. Marquez against Mayweather shouldn't have happened, too much weight too soon against a defensive counterpuncher, and who knows how many unofficial pounds on fight night after Floyd went over the limit. You can't compare those two versions of Marquez against a legitimate welterweight breaking the catch-weight.

Footwork, movement and defence...... has nothing to do with the fact that he fought one fighter that was a walking heavybag that threw no punches...... then a fighter that comes straight ahead throwing wide slow punches and only lasted 6 minutes...... then a fighter that is not fast at all that half the fight came straight ahead and landed good punches then the other half of the fight ran away still landing..... then fought another walking heavy bag but this one actually had a pulse and landed better much everytime he threw.:huh

Manny has not improved since the Marquez fight. He's just fought bigger slower fighters who dont throw alot of punches and fit his style very nicely. The thing that makes Pacquiao so good right now is the fact that he seems to be a freak of human nature and hasnt lost any of his speed and power while moving up in weight and getting stronger.:deal

:patschNot everyone(if anyone) can do what Pacquiao is doing right now. JMM moved up two weight classes and fought the best P4P fighter in the world who also happens to be one of the fastest fighters in the world. Comparing that to Manny fighting De La Hoya who was a walking corpse is just stupid. Not to mention Marquez isnt know for his blinding speed like Pacquiao and Floyd are.

Which lightweight was Pacquiao unable to knock out?
He has a perfect knockout ratio at lightweight.

If you're talking about Pacquiao's track record at 126-130, the only guys he was not able to knock out are

    Marquez 2x (a draw and a SD)
    Morales I (UD loss)
    Larios (UD, scored 2KD's)
    Barrera II UD

Pacquiao's record at these weights is 10-1-1 (7KO's) that's a whopping 70% knockout ratio even then. If you want to spin something for your PED theory, better create a new username and start in Pacquiao's record at the lower weights :rofl
