Is Pacquiao Dumb?

imagine if pac speaks better english, floyd and *****s alike would die of jealousy from all the extra attention he would get.
Come to think of it, he's already getting the extra attention, proves the public like pac. English or no english.

 

not to mention go back and watch some of his earliest u.s. televised events, he couldnt speak at all without an interpreter ...so obviously he has come along ways and progressed...

You dont posses the same vocabulary and arent are able to express ideas & concepts with the same dexterity when you are speaking in a second language. The use of metaphors or irony the verbal puns, all that goes out the window as you painstakeingly try to think youre way through a conversation. Manny does this in front of millions of viewers, that he can at least make himself understood should cue you in that he is no dumbass.

Thats the reason many fighters although they can speak some English Trinidad, Chavez come to mind will use an interpretor so they dont come across as dumb ass morons. Watch a video of Cotto speaking Englsih then watch him in Spanish the guy in latter seems the smarter more lucid individual.

 

I thought he was from Mindanao. So what Visayan dialect does he speaks? Does he consider himself a Bisaya first or Filipino second?

he speaks them all, I think, because he's from cotabato. He prolly speaks ilongo, waray and he's fluent in cebuano.

 

A few random thoughts.

Most boxers are dumb.

He does play chess and guitar. Total idiots probably wouldn't do that.

He does have political aspirations. Total idiots would be more like Riddick Bowe.

I have several employees who don't speak English very well. The language barrier along with the cultural and accent differences are massive. It's similar to trying to communicate with a deaf person if you've ever tried that. LMAO at those in this thread that say it's not a big deal. I'm very surprised that people think is English is poor. It's actually very good.

You should see all the expats who live in countries for years and years that never learn the basics. Almost all only lean if they absolutely must. This guy is far too busy and does not live in the US for that much time. When he does, he's surrounded by his fellow native speakers. It's obvious that he made serious effort to learn English. Compare that to plenty of other boxers from Spanish speaking countries who have been fighting in the US for years and barely speak English.

 

Try learning a new language at your current age. Let's see you become better than Pac. As people get older, learning a new language becomes a lot tougher. Pac couldn't speak english when he first landed in the US. 10 years later Pac has improved a lot. It's not perfect but you can understand him.

You know, another thing about pac that makes me think he's really smart is that he can deal with stress. We all know the chaos that goes around his camp and yet he still wins his fights regardless of the drama that goes on.

 

Damn.....the only thing dumber than a bag of marbles is Floyd then. Afterall.......that bag of marbles has done more in Floyd's own country and has won over their support over the US fighter. How dumb can Floyd be to let that happen?:rofl

Fair observation ! I'm a big fan of Manny Pacquiao but I think he's a little bit dumb !! It's not only about the language ! I saw Marquez giving an interview in a poorer english than Pacquiao and his answers were more coherent and precise !

Or maybe he's just not a great speaker ! I'm pretty sure it's not only the language anyway

 

When I was young, I worked with an older Russian woman. Her English was broken. Most of us thought she was stupid. The work we did was applications using computers and she often seemed quite dumb and but I started to notice she was translating words literally. After 6 months of working with her, one day I heard he talking over the phone telling the person over the phone to stop by the office as she would explain it because they couldn't understand. Her son later stopped over. What she was explaining to him was advanced calculus. He was a math tutor at MIT. Turns out this woman was originally a checker for the Russian space program before she migrated to the US. After she got more command over her English she became a project manger quite easily. Point being you can't tell if someone is intelligent by how well they use a second language.

 

People, who think someone might be dumb because he can´t speak properly language foreign to him, are really simple.
